Sticky for our best communal recipes?

Post by timmy »

Hi all,

How's about a sticky at the top of the recipes forum where we can add links to the most popular brews? Also (and I don't even know if phpBB supports this), to have a voting thing on there for the amount of people who've made each brew and recommend it.
Thought about this today after having a taste of my first attempt at Wassa's Honey Porter (fantastic, btw).

Cheers,

Tim

Top idea Timmy.

Boonies LCPA
The great Hoegarden clone

Recipes that members have made and know gives good results - would give those new to brewing a handful of tried and tested recipes to introduce them to our obsession/hobby.

If the new version was installed we could make a sub-forum for these recipes. That would probably be the best way to go about it.
Prost and happy brewing!

How about each style gets a sticky. eg the APA sticky would have Boonies LCPA, Trough Lolllys SNPA and Palmers Lady Liberty recipies.

That is a great way to do it greg, but will it not clog up the top of the Recipe forum with a bunch of "style" stickies?

I like that idea. Makes looking for a recipe of a particular style much easier.

Maybe as Kev suggested, we have a pilsner sub-forum, PA sub-forum etc instead of a big generic 'Recipes' forum. Then everyone can vote on the 'best' recipe, and that'll become the one sticky at the top.

Just an idea.

You could have a single sticky locked thread at the top which has one post in it, which is just links to all the other threads, one for each style, which are not sticky.

Could be maybe not spilt up the beers as much so make pale ales one, lagers/pils another, wheats etc. Could make it about 6 or so?

Either that or a sticky of links to threads as rwh suggests. It saves new members from searching but doesnt take up half a page of stickies.

What about an additional one for ciders/GBs or should that be left in the other brews thread?

Mind you, if anyone wants recipes, try this link. It has AG, partials, and kit based recipes.

Still catching up on old threads.....

Docs award winning recipes would be in there too.

I think it would be a great idea. I have a truckload in my favourites saved

Cheers

OK team,

With the new forum, it should be possible to do this.

Any more suggestions for categories?

* American pale ale (this is such a distinctive and sought-after style that maybe it's worth putting by itself???)
* Pale ale
* Dark ale, porter and stout
* Strong ale
* Other ale styles
* Pilsner (again, this is a large group so maybe should have its own section?)
* Lager
* Wheat beer
* Trappist beer (?)
* Ginger beer (?)
* Lemonade (?)
* Other brewed beverages

Perhaps what I should do is create these categories under the existing Recipes section, then sort all the existing posts into their relevant section.

With the new set-up of the forum, you wouldn't see these additional categories until you actually clicked into the Recipes section. This means they wouldn't clog up the front page.

Thoughts?

Looks great Oliver. Though may I suggest Amber Ale as a popular style? Maybe Cider and Mead as well? Mead is not hugely popular here but I think there are quite a few that do ciders?
