Login attempts exceeded
Folks,
Another user and I have experienced an error at login saying the maximum number of login attempts have been reached, and have had to answer a question before we logged in successfully.
This would seem to indicate that someone (or an automatic "bot") has been trying to log in by guessing passwords.
Please let me know by PM whether you have experienced this.
I am trying to find out whether there's a way to track where these attempts may be coming from.
However, it serves as an important reminder to ensure that your password is strong.
Use a site such as Microsoft's password checker to check the strength of your password. You may be surprised at the low strength of your current password!
In addition, computer security experts recommend changing your password on all sites regularly.
Cheers,
Oliver

Rotten,
Are you talking about problems generally, or specifically about logging in?

They couldn't install stuff on your computer if they brute force hacked your forum account, rotten. You'd still need to click stuff that you shouldn't. The bigger issue would be that your general online security could be compromised.
Re: Login attempts exceeded
Well, it's sorted now. I had to do a really good clean and virus check, i had trouble booting up for a few days. I'm no angel though, it could have been numerous things
Your site is very safe Oliver, as is my password

Re: Login attempts exceeded
Hi all,
Reports are that this type of thing has increased significantly of late across many boards.
Clearing your cookies may solve the problem.
I am away for work in sunny Canberra at the moment but I will check out the server logs when I get home to see if I can ban some of the sources of these attacks.
And just to reiterate: if you have a strong password then you've got nothing to worry about. It's just the inconvenience of having to answer the "secret question" when you try and log in.
Cheers,
Oliver
