Pubs in Canberra

Been to a good pub, or bad, lately? Found a bar with a great selection of beer? Looking for a new local or somewhere to visit on holidays?

Wig and Pen in Civic. Not sure about happy hours or partying, but some of the best brewed beer in the country.

How on earth do you ever find pubs in Canberra????

I have mentioned this topic before in street directories and pub listings.

Unfortunately the only thing we could find in 1991 was the PRIVATE BIN

If Canberra has a underbelly this has to be it.

Inbred halfwit nitwitsof all shapes and sizes from all over Australia congregating in the one spot.
Why didnt they name the Private Bin, Parliament it would have been more fitting!!

Every town has its sleazy scumbag nightclub. You found Canberra's.

For some reason (tax breaks I think) they closed all pubs over the years and built taverns and sporting clubs. f---ing horrible...which is why I stay home and drink good beer!

Looks like i will be making a trip to our nations capital 24-25th of September for work. Not sure where i will be staying but am keen to pay a visit to the Wig and Pen for a few beers. Not sure what my schedule is going to be, i will be busy during office hours and am unsure if i will be taken out for dinner. Depends on how deep the AFPs pockets are.....

Any other good pubs or do they all pale in comparison to the Wig and Pen?

They pale and ale in comparison to the Wig and Pen. You could also look out for Zierholtz beer. That's our other micro, but it doesn't have a pub.

Sure you did doc.

I went to Christoph's brewery yesterday and had some pretty tasty beer. His porter is good, as is the brown, but the hopmeister is easily the best.

CAR!!! Do not even consider public transport in Canberra- it's even worse than Sydney!

There's going to also be an Oktoberfest in the next few weeks.

Awesome! I have an Oktoberfest pencilled in to brew in a few weeks time. Will hold off until i can get to Zierholz and have a chat to the brewer. Was going to use 2206 but might lash out and buy 2633 (oktoberfest blend).

How much would a taxi from the city cost?

I've (thankfully) never been in a Canberra taxi. It's about 15-20mins from the city centre.
