Spit or Swallow

Post by surley »

Now that I have your attention.
Thought it was interesting how much people's taste in beer varies.
Seen lots of posts about beers you all love, what about the ones you hate?
Is it a commercial beer, or your mates first homebrew attempt?
What's the worst beer you've had and if it was the only beer that was available would you spit it out or chug it down?

To get the ball rolling........
I hate Lowenbrau, went halves in a carton with a good mate of mine and we both agreed it was crap. Had a terrible metalic taste to it, not sure if it was just a bad batch or not, but still haven't brought myself to try it again.
Did I drink it, would I drink it if it's all I could get my hands on.......
Hell yes, man's not a camel! :)

Hmm...

VB is the worst I think...maybe West End Draught. Have drunk both in certain circumstances. VB makes me sick though.

that said, my vote goes to Carlton Cold. Just tastes... dirty. VB is a little better, but still rubbish. but again, a man's not a camel

Reschs Real.

Went to my brothers house for a party and that is all he had (cheap beer).

Forced myself to drink about 2-3 while everyone else sank about 8-10.

I take my HB out to his place now
A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.
Give me a flying headbutt.......

VB has to sell for about $30 a carton before anyone will touch it. West End Draught is our VB equivalent (i.e everyone buys it, but there's no question it
is evil).

Never tried Tooheys Red. Didn't know they had such a large range...

Tooheys Blue. Had it years ago and remember it as dirt, worse than V.B.

I wondered about the tooheys pils, so the other day while my car was being washed I walking into the bottle and got a bottle put into a baggy, downed it pretty well sitting in the sun. I'd drink it again if the other choices were megaswill crap.

West end and VB are equally bad, horse urine would probably pass off as both.

tasted a batch of HB last weekend i had made last year from a kit a mate gave me. Re-read my brew book. Its a lager plus 1kg of essentially dex and corn syrup. brewed at 24! 3 months down the track and this is terrible stuff. Not throwing it out tho cos i tasted a bottle of Geckos lager that is a similar recipe. After 12 months it was a damn nice beer. Age cures most ills, at least thats what i am hoping.....

Yeah surley, was just thinking the same thing when I got down to your post.

Queenslands answer to Victoria's "green death". As a matter of fact, XXXX is so evil I think I would drink VB if it was a choice between those two.

Most interstate visitors to Qld seem to accept XXXX, as indeed do a large percentage of resident Qldrs. Visitors are usually in holiday mode and tend to drop their guards. Permanent residents have no excuse whatsoever.

Interstate visitors be warned. XXXX is more likely the cause of any stomach upsets you may experience whilst visiting - don't blame the prawns or oysters!

i think any beer, weather you like it or not should never be spat out.
i'm huge believer in if its brown chug it down. when i say brown i am actually talking about all shades of beer.

how about this though. have you ever tasted a beer... thought it was horrible and then on a really hot day drank it because thats all there was? how much more did you appreciate it?

xxxx for example. not so good when you drink it in victoria but once your in cairns in the middle of the dry season, its like no other.

different strokes for different folks though
appreciater of all things fine, especially beer
