Tooheys dark ale

Post by mark_68 »

Have brewed this kit plenty of times but this version tastes the best.It is nice and malty, with a taste similar to an english bitter.
1 tin tooheys dark ale
1 tin coopers liquid light malt
300 gms dextrose
150 gms crystal malt
safale S04(pitched dry)
15 gms northern brewer

I steeped the crystal malt for 30 mins. at 70 degreesC then added the liquid to the boil with the dex. and hops, boiling this for 30 mins.
After turning the heat off i added the extract and kit to the pot and mixed carefully so as not to splash the hot mix.
Cooled the pot in laundry trough with cold water till it was only just warm, then added to fermenter with water to volume of 22 litres.
Fermented at 22 degrees for 5 days.

Sounds like a good brew Mark. One brew I am planing is a Tooheys Dark Ale. I am planing to do:

1 can Tooheys dark ale
500g DLME
500g Dextrose
15g Fuggles (30min)

Please post comments on how you brew turned out once you open it up and try some :)

I did a Tooheys Old clone based on what Country Brewer suggested and it came pretty close.

Wal's Old Ale
600g DDME
400g Maltodextrin
12g Willamette steeped.

I'm pretty sure Wassa's recipe is basically the same except he uses a Tooheys Dark Ale kit.
