Re-using P.E.T Caps?

Post by nuzzles »

Hi fellow brew masters,

Just wondering if anyone has reused their PET bottle lids? Thoughts?

Cheers

Yes!

There has been a lot of discussion on this in the past, but you can definately re-use them, do a search.

I usually use them till they start to go warped, if they're too bad i take them off and put another or a new one on then seal it up.

When you do fit a new cap dont forget to remove the tamper ring
Its quicker to pull the ring off the cap than cut it off the bottle neck

Thanks mate, I've been using my teeth for ages to remove the rings, which will be a good habit to break when I start using the screwdriver.

I always go for new caps on my PETs, mostly because the crack you get from opening a new bottle is a sound I've come to love.

It's a guaranteed seal, and given its 10c more on each bottle, it's hardly anything to lose sleep over.

And it also looks half-professional. If you're out with friends and they realised they actually have to break the seal to open the bottle.

I'm not in this to make cheap beer.

Trizza-
I once took a chick out on my boat and couldnt find my bottle opener,
she throws the glass bottle in her mouth and POP! hands me a coldie,

some may find that appealing in a lady...
i had to pass her on to my more pirate-worthy mates...

something about it still freaks me out

A pair of scissors on the new caps does the trick although the rings do go flying.

Have made the fatal mistake of boiling my caps one day!

buscador-

I'm not proud of the fact that i can open twist top and crown sealed bottles with my teeth.
Still it is helpful when no bottle openers can be found....
