Fermented meat goes nicely with fermented beverage, I find
So a good mettwurst/salami with beer goes down a treat. It's nice and fatty and generally pretty salty, so is a winner on that front, too.
Standing around in the back yard with a beer and eating sliced chorizo straight off the bbq is a nice way to pass the time in summer.

I don't think I read it here. But the beer isn't that fattening.
It doesn't have an enormous amount of carbs, really if any at all.
Putting on weight comes from the fact that we like to nibble, and nibble upon carbs and fatty stuff like already mentioned above.
You see, it appears that alcohol slows the metabolism by about 73%, meaning that whatever it is that you stick in ya gob, sticks to ya waist.
Ok, now that I've upset everyone. Carry on.

I've really been enjoying pistachio nuts of late. Me thinks they are called piss-tachios for a reason.

Not that I've had it for a while but reading about haloumi in the resurrection of this thread reminded me of deep fried crumbed camembert or brie cheese. Had it in a few places when we were in Japan, including an outdoor food festival in Sapporo at -4C. Went down well with beer. No need for refridgeration of kegs at that temp.

I see your cayenne pepper and raise you 'Death Rain'.
One of my favourite tricks at work after drinks was to sprinkle some on the chips when no-one was looking
