+1 on what Speedie said. If the girlfriend doesn't like it you can always drink it yourself. Come to think of it that could be a good thing.

I put down the following last night:

Coopers Mexican Cervesa
1kg BE2
15g Citra @ 10min
10g Citra @ flameout
S-189

Made to 23l

Nothing complicated... I just wanted to see what the citra was like in a beer without too many other competing flavours.

I made nearly the exact same thing a few months ago, Lachy. I used the kit yeast in mine and fermented at 12deg and it came out pretty bloody nice. It was a bit thin but very easy to drink. I manage to down a decent amount whilst the boss was watching the wedding on Friday night.....

Well, I'm impressed with how this one turned out. An early (and rather cheeky) sample reveals that this hop seems to impart mandarine and definite melon flavours. The result seems fairly low in perceived bitterness... that said, I reckon there's not much malt in which to mask the IBUs anyway. Probably a bit of a chick's beer, but still not too shabby for a cheap kit lager made without much in the way of temperature control.

I made a brew fairly heavy in Citra this week. Smells great in the fermenter, where it's sitting about 15C after a strong fermentation for a few days.

Galaxy and Citra... hmm, that reminds me that I still have an ounce or so of Galaxy sitting in the freezer. I've not used this type in a brew yet, so I have to ask what flavours might I get from it, and what other hops/malts/styles does it work well with?

Hey Oliver, what size kettle are you using to get only 2.8L's boil off rate for 60 mins?

I've got some fresh citra on its way from the US and can't wait to put something on tap with it in an APA instead of cent/casc/amarillo...

Actually, that figure is a bit misleading, sorry (it was copied and pasted from BeerSmith). It was a partial mash in just over three litres, plus about the same of sparge liquor. I didn't measure the total after sparge or boil, unfortunately. Boil was in a large saucepan on a stovetop.

By the way, the hops were inspired by those used in the Mountain Goat Steam Ale.

Cheers,

Oliver

was at the sail and anchor yesterday to visit my daugther
she is one of there barmaids there
she aked if i had tried ferals karmacitra
so i tried one for evaluation
it has plenty of the hop note that citra presents it is a 5.8% brew with some roasted malt in it
this is only my opinion but i feel that it should be left out to the grain bill
lighter cara/crystal malts suit this hop for overall taste value and drinkability
if any of you lucky west aussie (west still the best) drinkers get down there try some please and post your perception of this brew
cheers speester

Any sign of an infection in the brew? It should come through as a soft fruity smell, maybe traces of melon...

I'd be getting that cat to a vet, mate :P

All I get is a big whack of fruitiness from citra. Were you using fresh hops?

Fresh hops and was pretty conservative with smaller late additions. I'm not the only one to get catty smells from citra.
