+1 I've got another one in the cupboard I've got my bottles carbing in. Both running on timers.
That sounds like a good idea Bum. Where do you put the heat pad in the cupboard with the bottles? Does it have to be under them or can you just lay it on the top of the crate?

If your cupboard seems like it is reasonably well insulated there's no reason that wouldn't work. Mine isn't so I work on the "heat rises" principle and bang it underneath. With a bit of careful balancing I can get an entire brew worth of longnecks on one pad.

I'm gonna try it! The 40w light bulb in the cupboard didn't do any good. I take it your longnecks aren't in crates or anything? I'm wondering how on earth you manage to get 30 odd bottles to fit on a heat pad though??

The ones around the back and left side are against the walls of the cupboard so they sit half on/half off the pad and the ones down the right side sit hard up against it. Not ideal but better than the freezing temps it can get down to here at night. The pads are pretty big - they're made for whole fermenters to sit on, remember.

With your stacked in the wardrobe method I wonder if a doona over the top of the lot might help you once the heatpad is going?

Good idea! I'll give it a go tonight and report back tomorrow. Thanks for your suggestions. Anna :D

OMT (That's One More Thing for the Acronym forum) - Do you think I could stand the heat pad on its side - sorta between the crates?

No reason why not except that they don't get really hot so I don't think they'd radiate heat very far sideways. But if you can insulate the lot pretty well with blankets/etc it might do the trick, maybe. It's gotta be better than nothing anyway. Best of luck.

As stated, i use a heat pad in a fridge so i have a better insulated 'cupboard'.

I have the heat pad on its side, you don't want to over heat yeast unless you like vegemite beer.

p.s. I''ll let the grammar comment slide this time, you're new. I am the resident grammar nazi though so tread very carefully.....

Doc - I had a funny feeling you just might be.... (grammar Nazi). I've been accused of that also... : 8)

You also appear to be the "Resident Guru", so if you put the heat pad on its side, I'll do the same.

Thanks guys,
Anna

You'd think self-appointed grammar Nazis would not litter their sentences with erroneous punctuation.

Jokes aside, he is one of many local Gurus and you'd do well to listen to him.

I also put my heatpad on it's side in the fridge (away from the fermenter) but it seems like a bit of a fool's errand to try to heat poorly insulated space that way. I'm having difficulty keeping my cupboard near 15 degrees right now so I'm not too worried about making my yeast too hot. Of course, I'm hoping that the bottles are a little warmer than ambient.

The liberal use of punctuation is to force you to slow down and pause as you read.

My theory is I have more hope of you getting the message.....

Bum, are you the same bum as on AHB who seems to amuse many with your posts and post titles?

PS: I'm also a bit of a stickler for correct grammar and spelling. :P

PS: Anna, welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy it, and learn as you have some fun. :D

Guilty as charged, warra.

No, need for that, drsmurto. Bum is not one to go off half-cocked.

Ha-ha Bum - gotcha! I always remember my English teacher saying "It's with an apostrophe means IT IS. There is no apostrophe for the possessive".

Does all this grammar stuff give away our ages I wonder? Doc - I think Bum meant me with the "erroneous punctuation", but I like to type as I talk and sometimes that takes a bit of literary licence.

Bum - I put the heatpad on ITS side last night in the cupboard and only got the temperature up to 17C, so I've come to work with the heatpad left on! Doc - if the house burns down I'll never speak to you again!

BTW - Should my two Coopers with Saflager S-23 brews be giving off rotten-egg gas (third day brewing)? They're stinking the whole house out.

Anna :(

Yes. It is, infact, a good sign.

OMG! I just read that thread Greg. What have I got myself into? That's the last comment I'll ever make on grammar or punctuation on this site! Thanks for the tip - Anna :?

Is "ITS" an acronym of some description?

Funny boy! I'd love to be able to come up with some terribly witty acronym but I'm stumped. Come on you guys - help me!
