by 'dry hopping' i assume this means just dropping the pellets in the brew without prior soaking?
Exactly

forcetwelve, I love my LCPA, and I've only done it twice

That's because I am still experimenting even after the amount that I've done  .

I've accumulated about 40 -50 recipes, some AG and some K&K that I still have yet to make.

As they always say on here, Relax and have a Homebrew

Cheers

My SNPA / LCPA clone.
Very very close to the real deal. Turned out around 5.6% to my calc's but tastes a little stronger.
Kegged after 14 in prime and 7 days in secondary.
Am loving this beer, fruity and malty. A great simple session beer.

Enjoy

5.4 kg Bairds Golden Promise Pale Ale Malt
0.8 kg TF Pale Crystal
15 g Cascade (Pellets, 5 AA%, 60 mins)
20 g Pearle (Pellets, 9 AA%, 30 mins)
30 g Cascade (Pellets, 5 AA%, 10 mins)
60 g Cascade (Pellets, 5 AA%, 0 mins)
200 ml White Labs WLP001 - California Ale
1 tablet Whirfloc

i just called grain and grape (bloody helpful blokes out there) and unfort. they dont have cluster hop pellets.

does anyone know what a similar replacment would be, or could i omit them from the brew and still get a good clone?

i guess it'd still be a nice brew even if these weren't there...

Any of these would do: Northern Brewer, Perle, Galena and Chinook. I'd recommend Perle.

just put down this recipe. it's really dark when boiled! is that right? like a really dark ale...

With 800g of crystal, yes... that would be right. It is quite dark for a pale ale, but keep in mind that it appears much darker in the fermenter than in the glass because you're looking through much more of it.

sure. i guess it is.

i did come to the horrible realisation just then that i didnt boil the stocking before i dropped it in the boil. it was in there for 5 mins - and the stocking is black! im such an idiot!

the beer now - just sampled a bit - is a dark amber colour. it doesnt look to have affected it too much at all. will the stocking dye ruin the brew?

well, after my slight "hiccup" (pardon the punn) my brew is bubbling away nicely and tastes and smells fantastic, and very much like LCPA.

cheers again boonie!

I made up 2 fermentors of Boonies recipe and used cascade and chinook. I didnt have enough malt and substituted dextrose.

I brewed one with Coopers pale tin yeast
the other with 1056

I bought a stubby of lcpa tonight to compare and the hop flavours really close but my brews are nowhere near malty enough.

Ill be using this recipe again but with all malt and no dex.

Paul, go the recipe exact and you will love it, seriously

Sitting here sipping a purchased LCPA....bought a case as a Fellow staff member said, "Buy a case of beer and send me the receipt, I owe you a favour"...okey dokey, on special for 57 bucks  I think he was expecting me to buy Tooheys for $35...I don't think so Tim.

Anyway, tomorrow is LCPA day, going to buy ingredients to make another batch. Only have to buy Morgans can :D . I have the rest  even the hops.

I've made a few beers lately and they have been nice but not niiiiiiiiiiice

LCPA, here I come.

The temp is getting a little cool, but with a jumper around the keg, she'll be right.

forcetwelve, let me know your thoughts on the first taste you have.

Happy brewing

Cheers

boonie - just tried the 1st LCPA clone. its only been in bottles for 2 weeks.

the aroma is spot on - the taste is quite close but it needs more time obviously. its still tasting very green and raw...

aroma is amazing though!

Will be putting this one down next week. LCPA is one of my all time favourites and I'll follow your recipe exactly. Thanks Boonie/

I had to heat my LCPA slightly, the yeast went to sleep. That 4 Degree morning did it.

As soon as I put the heat belt on, 10 minutes later, away she went. Only prob with the belt, I think it heats too much. The Keg is too warm for my liking. I do not have a temp sticker and I have not tested temp due to lack of time. 1st time I have used the belt.

I think she'll be right  I am sitting back, relaxing for the first time this week and having a Home Brew (Not my 1st beer this week:wink:) .Actually it is an original LCPA, couldn't resist. HB is next beer :D and next and next and next, you get the picture. It is Friday :P .

I bought more ingredients for the next batch going down on Sunday. Another LCPA, I plan to make one per week for the next 4 weeks & other brews can be the experimental ones.

warra48, good luck with it  forcetwelve, give it 3 more weeks minimum.

Cheers Guys
