drsmurto: you might want to get in touch with a refridgeration cluebie - the R22 on the side of that unit makes me think its full of Chlorodifluoromethane, the sale and production of which is being scaled back because its less than ozone friendly.
If its all gassed up and works sweet, don't look a ...

tarlox - I quite like the Rooftop Red, but a good example is an elusive animal.

I've had it on tap at The Queens hotel in Mount Lawley (Perth) and it was crap.
I've had bottles of it that were delightful .... and I've had bottles of it that had some crazy bitterness.
There's some quality control ...

The yeast certainly wasn't anything to write home about.
Shoulda taken a culture from a St. Bernardus bottle or something.

New Zealand. Check out http://www.monteiths.co.nz.
Its the first of their offerings I've tried, but I'm willing to give it all a go despite the Radler :)

Interesting that it appears to be a generic term for a shandy, rather than a distinct style of beer as they contend on their website.

Cheers!

Monteiths Radler

Picked up a couple of Monteiths' brews last night including a bottle of the Radler.
This isn't intended to be much of a review, just a couple of observations.

Monteith's Lemon and Lime Flavoured Radler is refreshing fruity lager, based on the original style brewed in Bavaria in the 1920's. In ...

DrSmurto,
I was attempting to imply that using sucrose as one of the major components of your brew isn't a crash hot idea.
In small doses its flavour profile isn't an issue (i.e. priming for bottling) and in some cases its actually a really good idea to use sucrose (in some Belgian styles). However ...

Steel ? or allie. hard to believe.
does a magnet stick - tho not the best way to tell as low grade S/S is magnetic.
The corrosion the outside is red iron oxide, so I reckon its steel.

Oh dear. Saw them on the weekend.
Yup, one's an old steel (not stainless) 18 gallon job.
The other one's a 50L one circa 1993.
Both of them are ex-Swan Brewery.

Anyone in Perth want the 18 gal one for an HLT?
I really don't think I want to mess with it.

Old brewery kegs

Hi kegmeisters,
A friend of mine has "a big old keg and a smaller one" that have been in storage on a property a couple of hours out of town. His father used to brew but is a bit beyond that now. He's happy to offload them to me - I'm curious as to how useful they're going to be.

What were the old ...

ok - couple more things.

After I have racked - how much clearer is the beer going to be, and can you bulk prime in the same jerry-can that you've racked into? (thus avoiding racking 2 times)

'Clearer' depends on your yeast, but it should be fair bit clearer than when it left the primary ...

Lord Azrael, I made a 15L batch with the Cooper's yeast recently and it was done in about 36 hours.
Its a real speed demon at those temps. Try to keep it around 20 or so.
