I've seen a few 2 can recipes on the forum now, I'll have to try it soon. My next brew will just vary the hops, try different style amounts etc. I have not used hops until my last 2 brews.

I went for the 2kg malt to see what is was like  Up till now i have only done brew booster packs etc.

Yes I see your point, the smaller the fluctuation the better.

I've got the electronics to control a fridge, just don't have a fridge yet, the tricky part is to convince the wife

leaking tap

I put down a brew yesterday, and noticed a few drips from the tap, not the thread but the tap itself, later on it was still dripping, enough to partially soak a paper towel over night. It seems the tap is a little worn and does not seal properly anymore.

I'm not worried about losing wort, but was ...

Spills,

I've also wondered if a +-2C fluctuation from ideal temp is ok for the yeast, my downstairs area where I brew is double brick, and the room temp stays fairly stable. At this time of the year my brews stay at about 20C, that's without a fridge.

So, there is a lot of talk about keeping brew ...

I guess I was really having a dig at Foster's in that their wording implies that there beer is free of artificial preservative.

Also liked the line "Caramel for colour and flavour"......

Foster's email about what they put in beer

A mate sent me this, it's a email from Foster's about preservative (220) in their beer:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us at Foster's.

The ingredients of beer in general include:

Raw materials:
· Water
· Malted barley
· Sugar syrup - derived from cane or wheat
· Roasted barley ...

Getting samples of the 1-wire stuff from Dallas is the way to go. I did find http://www.futurlec.com sell the DS18S20 at 3.95US which is reasonable, but most of the other stuff is pretty hard to find for hobbyist prices.

I have not used the AVR chips, only programmed PIC chips so far, but have a ...

Ah good stuff, BX-24 is that Atmel and basic ?

I was playing around with a PIC 18 using a DS1820 1-wire temperature device, and relays to drive a peltier.

Then i gave up on the peltier, thought it would be too inefficient, and a fridge would be cheaper and more effective in the long run.

Have not ...

The starting temperature as well as finishing ...

Hit the nail on the head there mate. Generally though if you go by the max temp the brew was at and conteract for super saturation then you should be fine.

Ok I've read the link and done the sums,

For a European Lager style (Coopers Bavarian with saflager) the expected range of CO2 is 4.3-5.3g/L, so if I go for 4.7g/L then,

for fermentation temperature of 10C the level of CO2 in the beer is 2.36g/L
therefore 4.7-2.36 = 2.34g/L required from bulk ...
