Re: The great Hoegaarden clone - in progress

Hi Chapz,
Been a while since I said I'd report back, but now with only 3 bottles of the Hoegaarden clone left it's time to post my recipe variant and ask about DOUBLING UP - this recipe was for 12 litres - I'm keen to do 23-24!

1.5kg Morgans Extra Pale Liquid Malt
100g Light Dry Malt Extract

Re: 2 CAN MOFO !

Carapils eh?
Hmm tx.

I don't need any more body in this beast.

Thanks chaps. most helpful.

Re: 2 CAN MOFO !

Howdy gregb et al - I just did your recipe (with a twist or two) - was thinking of bulk priming for coopers PET long necks with 300g maltodextrose.

sound reasonable?

don't want bombs or over carbination - just want head.

this brew is ace already in the fermenter - nice and bitter.

cheers!

Re: Malt Shovel Oatmeal Stout

This thing is getting better now. Chocolatey taste is mellowing out a lot and the brew has a nice bitter tang to it. The head is brownish but stays throughout the whole schooner.
luvverly!

Re: The great Hoegaarden clone - in progress

Thanks James L.

I bit the bullet and did the 12l version. will post up my final recipe and SG readings once the taste test is over and if I'm happy with it.

going to bottle it today or tomorrow so need to think about priming sugar and/or corn syrup to give a bubble or two and a bit of head.

Re: The beaty of independance

They are helping with you're choice when it comes to beer. Dan Murphys and 1st Choice both have a huge range of beers. Even their smaller ones are increasing their variety of beer.
BTW Dan Murphy's is part of Woolworths....

Don't hold out for much help from that Paper Tiger - the ACCC.

It is up to 'us' to not buy grey-imports unless we are happy to pay the list price for that foreign beer 'taste' even if it is made here.

I always check the label when I'm buying from Dan Murphy's etc and in restaurants I too usually ...

Ours is never more than $200 for 90 days, that`s with 2 big fridges and large uprite freezer. Also includes Ambulance levy, about $30 or something.
You have Electric ambulances or something up where you are? ;-)

Hi - the website says Gerard (the Brewer) works for Malt Shovel - who make James Squire for those that don't know.
Coincidence that the ND Porter tastes a bit like JS Porter?
Awesome anyway - I'm gonna have to hunt a bre kit out as I have some JSP in my fridge and the stock is running low.
