Re: Split Extract Batches

Works out well in gaining experience and knowledge as to exactly what happens when you add certain ingredients since you have the control batch to know what it would taste like if you didn't add anything to it.

Exactly what i'm aiming to achieve. If anyone else has any other ideas on how to do ...

Re: Split Extract Batches

Thanks Earle

The Dry Lager i'm using is billed as "for lovers of a good cerveza" so i thought it might do as a good substitute. Whilst im not a cerveza fan it seems we are both on the same wavelength re bitterness.

Point taken re using malt extract instead of kit as well.

The hops method i'm ...

Split Extract Batches

Hi all

What i am wanting to do is get an idea of what a particular hops characteristics are like, eg flavour & aroma. The idea being that i can start to put together some of my own recipes down based on what hops i like.

My plan was to get a fairly neutral extract base and trial different hops. I ...

Extract out of date

Hi all

I have 2 Brewferm extract cans out of date by 3-4 weeks, will they still be ok? I was thinking of replacing the provided yeast with some fresh yeast as a starting point.

Any thoughts?

Using a Refractometer

Howdy

I need a bit of help using my new refractometer. I kinda thought it would be easy but its turning out to be a bit of a struggle. My 4.5 % beers are showing up as 14% . I tried some wine which also showed up a fair % higher, and also got about 5% higher on some rum. Despite my attemps ...

Vanilla

Howdy

Thought i'd make mention of an interesting find that i had a while ago. I was cleaning my Fridge with "vanilla fridge cleaner" and being too lazy to take my beers out before i sprayed the stuff about the fridge, some of them copped a spray.

When i went to drink one, i copped a distinct ...

So it aerates as it passes through the air? or as it churns when it hits the fermentor?

Aeration

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little bit about Aeration.

I understand that you should Aerate before pitching your yeast but i dont really understand:
1. Why this needs to be done
2. What are common methods of Aerating?

Cheers!
