Sorry I better clarify. I use 100% sodium perc as a no rinse.

When I use napisan or the like I rinse and use Iodophor as a sanitiser.

Re: What are you brewing?

Only 12.5 IBU of Saaz ? Seems a bit low to me, but would love to hear what you are looking to achieve.

Pils/Rice 80/20 looks good, should make a nice crisp lager.

Yeah I went for a "Standard American Lager" by style..

I'm after something crisp & dry like Asahi. I'm thinking the rice edition ...

Re: What are you brewing?

My first foray into rice today. :)

80% pils
20% rice

Single hop edition of Saaz to 12.5 IBU

Yeast: undecided.. :? Was thinking S-189 but open to advise.

Mashed @ 65C

Hoping to get a nice clean inoffensive lager

Re: citra brew

Crikey, that sounds very close to what I was planning. I was thinking Cervesa can, 1kg BE2, 15g citra @ 10min, 10g citra @ flameout, to 23l. Is it as strong as nelson sauvin in its fruitiness?

Mine was to 21L

Personally I think Citra is alot fruiter than NS but maybe it's because I've used NS in ...

Re: citra brew

I think I used 10grms @ 10mins and 15grms @ 0mins in 1L of water with 120gms of Dex. Added to a can of cervesa & 1kg of LDM.

It is very fruity and kind of overpowering. Not to say it won't mellow but I would go a bit less next time. I was surprised at how powerful this hop is as I have done similar ...

Re: Recommended thermometer?

Aha, I think I understand now. I was trying to avoid having to buy any extra cords and so was looking for a solution that could run off the power cable of my chest freezer.

You can do that too. I have done that with both of my chest freezers (both F & P). Heaps neater than putting in a box and ...

Re: Recommended thermometer?

Heaps of diagrams on AHB. Maybe have a look there. There's also a couple of resident sparkies that can help you out.

I wired my own wasn't too hard but would pay to get someone to check it out if you are unsure. Otherwise PM me and I'll see if I can help you out.

Re: out of date dark ale

For experimenting you would still be best going fresh ingredients.

If you're trying a new hop / yeast / grain and you don't like the taste / aroma was it the hops / yeast / grain or the stale goop?

6 months out of date you may get away with it... nearly 4 years.. I don't like your chances

Re: out of date dark ale

Mate for what $10 or $11?? I wouldn't use it. Don't take the risk of using inferior ingredients.

No doubt you will make beer and it will be drinkable (probably) but it won't be good beer.

I believe fresh quality ingredients is right behind sanitation & along side temp control in level of ...

Re: Ghetto Brew Box Project

I'd use an ethylene glycol based coolant. Probably because I can get it fairly easily for nothing.

Check this chart out for the concentration % required http://www.temperaturecorporation.com/pdfs/glycolconcentrationrequirements.pdf

It would contaminate your beer if it came into contact (got into ...
