VB - no worries
VB is better than no beer. If you have no pretentions, you have no worries. I bought a stubby of VB Gold as a roadie and it was drinkable. Last night a bloke offered me a Carlton Cold and it was drinkable. I've lived years in the Northern Territory and drunk crappy water but it was drinkable. I ...

Fermenting Water
Don't laugh. Looking at experimenting with fermenting alcoholic drinks for wife and daughters - those breeezers and cruisers etc costing me a fortune. Thought I'd experiment with fermenting sugars / lactose etc in water to see what I get. Thinking best to make this a s a base and add flavourings ...

Black and Tan
Split a can of Coopers Stout and put half each into batches of Coopers Draught and Tooheys Draught. Didn't add any additional sugars or malts. Both beers relatively similiar with a great stouty taste. As a Tooheys Old drinker when at the local, I prefer my results.

Yeast starters
How much is enough yeast ? Is there as much yeast in a starter from a previous batch than in an original packet ? Like a previous comment, Safale at $5 a pop adds to the beer cost. What would happen if I used half a satchel ? Does it still work, just takes longer for yeast to complete the ferment ...

Beer tastes funny
Last time used a Wander Munich lager, but from memory have had same results from a home brand version and a Coopers of some sort. Generally pretty merticulous about cleaning equipment using that sodium meth .. stuff. If not rinsed out of fermenter, anyone reckon this affect the beer.

Beer tastes funny
Only make kit beers. Done so since 1988 and have got the steps down pat. BUT, every once in a while I get a brew that tastes "off". I don't know what iodine tastes like, but I describe my beer as "iodiny". Has happened too many times over a number of years to be a one off problem. Therefore every ...

Does boiling a home brew kit kill or modify hop content
Read somewhere that if you boil a commercial home brew it will sanitise the wort but will also kill off or leach out the hop contents. Is this true. I guess point is, boil up a kit beer you must replace the hops?
