Exactly my thoughts, DSGA is lovely,
i reckon its more bitter.
I have slowl;y dropped that recipe down to 4% alc and its still bloody bewdiful...

My sincere apologies to the doc. I'm sure my AG smurtos golden ale will cream the Little Creatures golden ale. Loose comparisons were not intentional as I only bottled your famous version today.
Thanks in advance I'm sure drsmurto.
Cheers

On a side note I tried a lager of mine pre AG tonight, very nice even for a kit & bits. Very easy to forget where you have or haven't come from in a short time. NS & Saaz do themselves proud with a Canadian Blonde kit.
Cheers again, and again.

Friday night: Williams Pale Ale

Very refreshing "Bright" drop with a great citrussy after taste, I should have grabbed 6 of these instead of one as it went down too well.

Sunday: Went to Five Islands Brewing in Wollongong for lunch and along with a great meal had a pint of their "Dirty Deeds Dunkelweizen" A dark wheat beer with gold lacing. Morishly good and was 5.7%.

I also had a pint of Longboard Pale Ale which was very nice, I've had it before on tap from another pub and it's still very good, they use cascade hops which come across buzzingly and pleasant to taste.

3 Ravens Rye - Was pretty excited when I saw this in the shop. Tastes soapy and medicinal with the expected spice/pepper way, way in the back of the linger.

drsmurto wrote:My golden ale has a lot more flavour and aroma when compared to JSGA. I think that is a good thing but it comes down to personal taste.

This is what is waiting for me at the BJCP study group tonight.......

Class 8. Strong Belgian and French Ales: Dubbel (Affligem, La Trappe), Tripel (Affligem, Westmalle), Strong Golden and Dark Ales (Duvel, Chimay, Orval, Scaldis, La Chouffe), Biere de Garde (Jenlain, 3 Monts), Saison (Saison du Pont).

And then i am judging at the SA state brewing comp on Sunday, a very beery weekend.
BJCP session was very good, the Rocherfort 10 was by far my favourite. Some of the dubbels and tripels were also quite nice.

Judging went well, i was on amber and dark lagers and tasted some very nice Munich Dunkels, Vienna Lagers and Cali Commons.

Just got word my english barleywine scored 1st place in the strong ale section! 8) Very chuffed, it now goes into the nationals (AABC).

Nogne O #500 - This isn't the heaviest beer I've ever had but it is certainly hitting me the fastest. New land pissed record, guys. Very big beer. Will still be tasting it at breakfast.

Nogne O is the name of the brewery and #500 is the name of the beer. This is a very new beer of theirs made to celebrate their 500th commercial batch. It is supposedly an IIPA but it seems like it is leaning more towards the barleywine camp and might be better if drunk in a year or so. Still pretty enjoyable nonetheless. Not for the faint of mouth though.

There's a couple of pretty decent bottle shops sort of near me. Every few months (on average) I go check them out and grab some beers. Both have web shops:

http://www.slowbeer.com.au/
http://www.purviscellars.com.au/PurvisBeerfinder.aspx

Haven't used either online but their service is great in store so I expect they'd be the same here.

Baird Beer Temple Garden Yuzu Ale - Weird but very pleasant beer from my favourite Japanese brewery (it doesn't matter that I've only drunk the beer of four Japanese breweries). Tart, zesty, lemony(ish) but malty(ish) and the bitterness seems derived from the rind of the fruit. I wish I had another one.

Started the night off with a Kooinda Pale Ale, easily my favourite Australian brewed APA.

Then checked the carbonation of the 3 kegs i am taking camping tomorrow. Standard Golden Ale, a rye golden ale with homegrown chinook hops and an english bitter. First one still needs a touch more carbonation so have cranked the pressure up.

A robust porter brewed by a local HBer that he have to me 12 months ago. Really felt like somehting dark and found this hiding behind the various yeastcakes in the fridge. Smooth and easy drinking.

Finished the night of with a Greene King Strong Suffolk Vintage Ale served at 16C. Another very nice old ale, complex malt flavours with a bit of age (sherry).

Liefmans Goudenband - A Flemish Red(ish) recommended to me by a retailer when I would have preferred a Rodenbach Grand Cru. I'm drinking it now and would still prefer a Rodenbach Grand Cru. Still very interesting and I'll probably get it again.

First try of AG #2 Oatmeal stout, only 3 weeks old. Very impressed, will need to put another few in the fridge for after the footy on Sat.

I tried a few beers the other night, like just three special ones as I was the designated driver.

I usually do this special ritual every christmas, new beers and get an experience. You know, no hurry, family time beers.

Well, I found a ripper! You guys will probably go yeh, been there before.
But I roooolly liked the Monteiths Black Beer! Yummoh.
