need help
Re: need help
Yes, it happens to us all eventually.
Three things:
1. Control the temperature, if possible
2. Use a blowoff tube and collecting vessel, instead of the airlock
3. Clean up as much of the external mess as possible. Clean, sanitise and reinstall the airlock
Beyond that, relax, have a homebrew etc etc.
You'll be fine. It's happened to me on multiple occasions, and I've not lost a brew yet.

Re: need help
+1 on the temperature control. Aim for brewing at 18C (for ales, which includes most cans/kits) if you can. That will reduce the vigor of the fermentation, thus preventing the foaming that you've experienced, and also produce a better-tasting beer.
