I saw a video of someone making an oyster stout recently and it didn't look too flash to me, all those oysters and fishy juice going in, made me a little queazy (and I love oysters). Not sure what the oysters add, can you taste it at all?Oliver wrote:Three Boys Oyster Stout ($NZ7.99 (a mere $A6.20)/500ML, 6.5%). Made with NZ Bluff oysters. A rich, malty and flavoursome beer. In fact, an awesome stout. All about the maltiness (and the oysters?) and not so much about the hops, which is unusual here in NZ.
What are you drinking now?

I think they had a spot like that on that living room TV show recently. Why not chuck a chicken in as well for a surf and turf.

Eww. Gross. Monkey gland sauce too? Or just stout Kilpatrick?earle wrote:I think they had a spot like that on that living room TV show recently. Why not chuck a chicken in as well for a surf and turf.
Come to think of it I might just enjoy my stout aü naturale.
2000 light beers from home.
Re: What are you drinking now?
The worst beer I've made in a very long time.
Re: What are you drinking now?
Not as bad as mine, I'm drinking a slightly infected Irish Red.Bum wrote:The worst beer I've made in a very long time.
I'm only drinking it as punishment for pitching a yeast that I wasn't 100% with.
I'm sure most of it will be tipped as it gets worse.
Re: What are you drinking now?
Don't toss it out, wait until your a lot more than "tipsy"(sorry about the pun) and you won't really notice
.
cheers BB

A barrel a day keeps the doctor away. Drink more piss.
Re: What are you drinking now?
Tipsy, I realised too late on brew day that I had forgotten to drain the starsan from the cube. About 400ml. It feels almost abrasive.
The style is over 80 years old.barrelboy wrote:what next

I had an infected Irish red once. Luckily the antibiotics fixed it pretty quickly.Tipsy wrote:Not as bad as mine, I'm drinking a slightly infected Irish Red.Bum wrote:The worst beer I've made in a very long time.

Re: What are you drinking now?
The brew I did immediately prior to that one was my first with flaked oats. I have had beers with oat adjuncts before but never had a session on them and this recipe seemed to have a fairly high percentage of oats (as far as I could tell, anyway). So I had my first weekend on that brew last week. It isn't the best beer I've ever had but probably a touch better than my own average. However, it turns out that oats in beer do not agree with me.Bum wrote:The worst beer I've made in a very long time.
Enormous farting problem.
In order to fully understand how bad a problem it is I'll need to give you a little background. SWMBO thinks farts are hilarious. I can't tell if there is something horribly wrong or incredibly right with her but that's how it is. It has come to be that farting has almost become a competition between us. Anyway, the farts were so bad I've found myself having to apologise for their gut-convulsing stench. So bad that I had to change my clothes because the smell would not go away (no, there were no lumps).
Why am I telling you this disgusting story, you ask? I decided to blend that beer with the horrible beer quoted above in order to mitigate the various hideous qualities of each and bugger me sideways if it hasn't turned out to be fairly tremendous. Here's hoping the wind is toned down a touch (but not gone so I can still win The Fart Game).

(Laughing riotously)
Thanks for that Bum, currently drinking my first effort using rye, it's a English Pale ale and even for a beer that needs more time inthe bottle to carb up it is tasting pretty good. Think I'll have to bring some inside to warm up for a bit.

Re: What are you drinking now?
That's the best explanation I've read as to how the name BUM came about.
It is because of the flatulence, is it not?

Re: What are you drinking now?
It is not but this version is far more interesting.
Re: What are you drinking now?
Hilarious story Bum. My wife finds similar mirth in farts.... but only when she does it, if it's me then it's disgusting.
Re: What are you drinking now?
I must admit that the near-lethality of last Sunday's farts made both of us lose our sense of humour fairly quickly.
Re: What are you drinking now?
I get a bit like this when drinking my homebrew, particularly the darker ales and the Hefe's.
I think I queried this two years ago actually.
I have recently acquired a book titled 'Eat for your type' by Dr Peter J D'Adamo. It appears that being O Positive blood type that I am a carnivore, closer to the apes than some, and should steer clear of wheat and all other grains.
Mmmmmm, ......................nahhhhh.

...is this book peer reviewed or is this bloke contributing further to the shit-tonne of hokum pseudoscience that seems so prevalent these days?Sonny wrote:I get a bit like this when drinking my homebrew, particularly the darker ales and the Hefe's.

Being A negative am I supposed to stick to legumes and bananas, or some nonsense?
EDIT: Surely being closer to the apes would make you more of a herbivore than a carnivore. I'd be looking for a refund, assuming you didn't get this book for free.

St Vinnies and only 50cents.
Are you eating just legumes and nannas?

Never mind the pseudo science.
I'll stick firmly to being an OMNIVORE !!
That's a win-win situation.

Kooinda Milk Porter, picked up a 6er at Crown Cellars at the other end of the state whilst I was up that way.
So good, very well balanced, nothing dominates it is simply a very good Porter and you can pick the 'milk' factor. Glad I didn't just buy one!

Re: What are you drinking now?
Funny how differently everyone perceives things. I had one last night and thought is was an absolute dog of a beer (which was a shame because I really like their pale). Glad you enjoyed, though.hyjak wrote:Kooinda Milk Porter, picked up a 6er at Crown Cellars at the other end of the state whilst I was up that way.

Had a Mountain Goat The Naz (another porter) and thought it was the duck's.
Also A-B'ed Murray's Wild Thing and Red Hill's Imperial Stout - the latter looked very amateurish in comparison.
