What are you drinking now?
Re: What are you drinking now?
Been in Port Douglas this last week. It is a marvellous spot to have a little break from the cold, windy rain we have been so blessed with in central Vic. It is good beer-drinking weather!
So the paucity of good beer has been a little surprising. Almost everywhere we have gone, the range of tap beers has been XXXX gold, VB, Tooheys Extra Dry, and sometimes Peroni and Stella. The lists of bottled beer weren't much better; add in Crownies, Boags, Corona, and Asahi.... I asked some of the bar staff if the imports were genuine or BUL, and got blank stares. Probably shouldn't expect too much from pommy backpackers.... One place (Salsa - also the most highly recommended for a top meal) had J Squires Pale on tap, so that had a bit of a thrashing.
A cracker holiday, but a bit flat on the beer front.

hehe, I had to google paucity.
Re: What are you drinking now?

Yeah, it was like they had made beer and just forgotten to make it taste like beer. Or smell like beer. Just as well it was hot and I was thirsty!

Re: What are you drinking now?
I'm drinking the second keg of a galaxy SMaSH that I brewed at a SA brew day about 3-4 weeks ago. This one was no-chilled, dry hopped, all galaxy hops @ 10 mins only and it's frreakin tasty I must say. It's not overpowering in flavour which suits mega swill, but has enough flavour to keep those who know interested. I was trying to keep it for a footy tip night but I think they're shit out of luck and will have to try the next brew instead

Beer numbs all zombies !!!

Samuel Smith's Organic Real Ale. Quite a delicious drop, from what I can taste through my hayfever haze.

Re: What are you drinking now?
Pyssedas Heavy Industrial made a chicken beer once. I didn't have the (mis)fortune to try it but apparently it was quite nice (according to PHI, but he would say that).earle wrote:Why not chuck a chicken in as well [as oysters] for a surf and turf.
I will make him aware of this thread because there's a fair chance he could be enticed back to homebrewing by the prospect of a surf and turf beer. God only knows that nothing else has worked.
Cheers,
Oliver

Re: What are you drinking now?
There were once plans for a clamato beer - and another division of Pyssedas once made an ancient orange and beef beer. Theres nothing quite like having vegetarians come over to your house and being able to tell them they cant have any beer "because its all full of meat"

Sierra Nevada 2012 Hopinator Whole-Cone Imperial IPA. 10.4 ABV, 100 IBU. It tastes as you'd imagine: aromatic and intensely, intensely bitter. It's got very little carbonation and is incredibly smooth. In fact I'd almost describe it as velvety. Definitely a sipper.
Re: What are you drinking now?
I was a tad skeptical when I bought this from Dans, since the same importer flogs a truly ordinary Pale Ale. (The one with a WWI bi-plane on it). Anyways this is a great drop, and only around $18.00 a six-pack. Tastes like a 'Orange-Coriandery Pale Ale' if that makes any sense.

The light 2.7% beer at Zeirholz, Canberra Uni. My dog Blue (red cattle) died yesterday morning. Had to be put down. Vet reckons he sufferred a massive stroke. Anyways, had him since '97, so around 100 in human years isn't bad going.

Sad to lose a good dog.
I've always had blue heelers in the past. My last one was the best and I haven't been able to replace her as I don't think any other dog would ever measure up.

Sorry about your dog Lob. They're not good days.

It's a kolsch of sorts where I added 100 gm D saaz flowers to the mash. Very tasty. Should have dry hopped them though I reckon.
