2013 Xmas Lotto
Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
Let my pale ale age for a couple more weeks. I bottled it two weeks ago I opened one the other night but it hadn't carbed up properly yet.
I tried cold crashing for the first time and I think this May have something to do with slowing it down.

Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
I had the exact same problem with an amber ale last year. Was the first time I cold crashed before bulk priming/bottling, and it took well over a month to fully carb up. All my non cold crashed beers were fully carbed in under 2 weeks. After 2-3 weeks I was trying everything, inverting the bottles for a couple of days before putting right side up again, etc...in the end it just took time.
Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
No worries, Crooked Fingers gave me the heads up and I put it in with the bottles I have conditioning.Pogierob wrote:Let my pale ale age for a couple more weeks. I bottled it two weeks ago I opened one the other night but it hadn't carbed up properly yet.

Cheers mate
Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
Had Crooked fingers Honey Wheat earlier

Smells of American style hops and carbed high like a wheat should be.
CF told me that it's lost it's honey flavour and I'd have to agree. I probably would have picked it as a APA rather than a wheat.
Very nice, balanced toward the bitter side of the scale.
Drinking his Amber ale atm. Sorry no pic as I'm having trouble uploading.
Darker in colour with the nose of hops a lot maltier.
Very nice.
CF said these beers were from extract. I couldn't pick it.
You may be disappointed when going AG CF. It was a huge improvement to my beers but yours are already up there

Tipsy, a bottle of Biggles' Best Bitter has been dispatched today. Enjoy!

Oh I'm blushing ! Thanks Tipsy. Glad you enjoyed them.
Moving to AG is going to make my brewing more involved and more interesting for me, but I was always pretty happy with my extracts.
I have a mill also, so AG is going to work out heaps cheaper !!!
Maiden voyage BIAB tomorrow night !!!

Just about to box up an amber ale, oktoberfest lager and galaxy pale ale. Hopefully to the post office tomorrow.
Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
Drinking Weizgeis beer today.
Drank your one marked 'W' first. Poured dark with a tightly packed tan head.
I did take a pic for the punters but I can't get photobucket to upload
Had a really malty nose and taste with a bitterness at the end that really cut through the malt nicely.
The one I'm drinking now had another letter on the lid but I threw it in the bin before looking at it
Pours a real nice amber with a few yeast floaties. First swig all I can think of is 'tangy'
Tastes of American hops, though I can't pin down what type. Maybe a bit of Amarillo?
Anyway both nice beers and I'm already getting a bit of a buzz.
Dr. Smurto, your beers have been received safe and sound. I look forward to tasting them later in the week.

Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
Yeah, that W is a galaxy dry hopped weizenbock, 6.5%abv. I reckon the Galaxy is overdone, others disagree and enjoy it more than me.
The other beer would be my Random Task IPA, bittered with Warrior, then Centennial, Citra and Amarillo late. A good whack of (my beloved) Amarillo at flameout, so good pickup there. It's 5.8%, so yeah no wonder you have a bit of a buzz after those two!
Sorry about the yeast floaties, I didn't crash chill the IPA and I reckon BRY-97 needs crash chilling badly...won't make that mistake again!

I'd be in agreement with the 'others' I really liked it.weizgei wrote:Yeah, that W is a galaxy dry hopped weizenbock, 6.5%abv. I reckon the Galaxy is overdone, others disagree and enjoy it more than me.
Don't worry about it too much, I was just describing it as I saw it. A little bit of yeast has never worried me.weizgei wrote:Sorry about the yeast floaties, I didn't crash chill the IPA and I reckon BRY-97 needs crash chilling badly...won't make that mistake again!

Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
You have not been forgotten, Tipsy.
We have sold our house in Port Macquarie and will move out by 12 March, then move to Newcastle to a house we have yet to find and buy.
Once settled I'll resume brewing, and you will get your winnings.

Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
With all the beers coming in I got a little confused and mistook yours for Barlsearle wrote:Just about to box up an amber ale, oktoberfest lager and galaxy pale ale. Hopefully to the post office tomorrow.

Got Barls today so they're all safe and sound.
Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
It must be terrible coming home to beer being delivered randomly.
Re: 2013 Xmas Lotto
You wouldn't believe what hardships I have to endure in my life...........................Pogierob wrote:It must be terrible coming home to beer being delivered randomly.

Anyhoo I was going to drink Olivers tonight but I wanted to drink his 2 bottles back to back to compare his grain bills.
But a customer/friend came to work with an armful of CPA's and then onto beers with my parents. I don't think I've 2 bottles left in me....Did I mention how hard my life is.
So I've gone with Geoffs 'Malty matey's Biggles Best Bitter"
This is the style of beer I've been making lately. Definitely malty. Was there a bit of chocolate malt in there Geoff?
I wouldn't say bitter, could have a little more for the style imho but a beautiful beer nonetheless.
Thank you very much
