Stockings

How would I go cutting up the hugs and kisses' leggings, boiling for 10mins of course, and then using it to brew hops, grains etc in it? I forgot to by some when i went to the HBS and i wont be getting back before I start my next drop.

another option is the packaged polishing cloth available from auto shops. They come in "tubes" of various lengths (say, 1.5 to 5 metres), are of the right mesh size, are very study, are very cheap, dont risk offending herself (or himself if you come from south of the Tweed :-) ), ...
Cut to length, tie knots in one or both ends, ...

I've used stockings in the past to boil hops and they work very well,
as for grains i'm not sure. But if you go to some of the yank brew sites the talk about using grain bags.

I have a pack of knee high stockings that i picked up for making my cider with real apples, no need to cut them down in size. All i did was boil one until the water was black, toss the water and boil it again to leech out the rest of the die.

I wonder what the Woolies checkout chick thought when she saw a big unshaven lout like me buying sugar, apples and stockings

I always wondered about that to.

I used to use a piece of the missus, then I bought a reusable grain sock

I used Chux or similar, and I can't remember any off-flavours, leaks or problems. Easy to wash out, and you can then re-use them, or even use them for washing up. Who's for using Chux?

I'm a stocking man, myself.

Just buy some cheap, skin-colored stockings from the supermarket and cut off the legs. Boil (never had any problem with dye coming out), add the hops or grain and tie the end together.
