> Anyone have an opinion on using a Cascade Spicy Ghost Draught as the base hopped malt for a belgian wit?

The Cascade Spicy Ghost Draught kit actually contains no wheat at all! Either malted or unmalted! That is if you can believe their ingredient list. I checked into this when preparing a Paulaner taste-alike. Wording contains "a zesty wheat inspired draught". Also "haunted by orange and coriander". As I raised once before on this forum, marketers gone mad. They can say what they like, but the ingredient list has to be accurate. And no mention of wheat, orange, coriander, any amount of haunting, no zest of any origin whatsoever, ...

So, back to your question. I guess you could use the Cascade Spicy Ghost Draught, but you would need to add lots of wheat to get a Wit.

I did more or less this with a Cascade Spicy Ghost Draught kit in my quest for the perfect home-brewed Weizen, but was somewhat disappointed. I dont buy any of the Cascade kits anymore, almost irrespective of price (I suspect I would if they dropped them to a dollar or so, but only to make beers to give to greedy in-laws, not to drink myself).

Don't know what happenned to "letting know how it turns out"....... :?
Great memory. :?

Anyhow, as I said, big, malty, nice beer that came in around 6.5% by memory. Real orangey at first which died away to be more corriander in the end.

Matty deserves credit for this one as it was inspired by another thread
