Kit cans to avoid?

Post by thisispants »

I've tried the coopers pale ale which was pretty solid i thought.

Are there any ale's or lagers I should avoid./...

or better yet, any brands in particular not worth trying.

I havn't yet tried any I dislike (because I've been sticking to Coopers kits thus far). Big fan of the Real Ale. Got my hopes up for the Sparkling ale kit too. However, as a new brewer I too would be interested in seeing what the fellas here think should be avoided.

Cheers,

Never had a bad one yet. Try em all I reckon. Some are better than others, but it's beer so it's all good every time!

Seriously, even the home brands are OK with a bit of malt and a few hops added. Still can't bring myself to pick up a Tooheys though.

The Cascade kits have been a disappointment.

My suggestion is stick with Coopers, ESB, Morgans and Muntons and you won't go too far wrong.

Mate, and you would drink Victorian beer the like of which they don't dare replicate as home brew because they know no-one would buy it.

ha,....i'm another who wont be travelling down the tooheys road.

I wanna know who buys that stuff!?

Tooheys New tastes like they've added a touch of poison during secondary fermentation.

501,
Just this minute finished putting down their (Malt Shovel)Pale ale, I used two cans and made upto 23l. They are supposed to be quite good.

Cascade kits for me are the worst, I'll never make another; absolute crap.

Cheers

Kit cans to avoid

I've tried two Cascade kits - Spicy Ghost (which I haven't sampled yet) and an just about to bottle Golden Harvest.

Has anyone used the XXXX Lager kit yet?

I'll let you know when it's ready will be a while though, and yes the instructions simply say to add water and the yeast, no need for any other fermentables or hops.

The best kits that I have used are:

X-Tract - by the Country Brewer

Some Coopers kit- esp. the sparkling ale

And the blackrock stuff isn't bad either.

I like to try most kits but I am a bit worried at the moment as I have seen a lot of negative feedback about the cascade kits, and what do I have brewing at the moment, a Cascade Spicy Ghost and a Cascade Imperial Voyage Pale Ale
well they are bubbling away OK, so hopefully they will be drinkable

you cant go wrong with most of the Coopers stuff, also Black Rock is pretty good and Morgans Blue Mountain Lager is also good

drinking a Black Rock NZ Draught as I type, not too bad at all :D
