Just on that method using hot water. I have a young bub at home, and the water for feeding etc, is boiled for AT LEAST 5mins before it is used. I assume using hot water as a STERILISER for the fermenter and bottles would really require the same guidelines. Are you going to be contemplating boiling everything for five minutes? Just something to think about.
However, having said that, I have an older mate who used to brew, but now only does a still, for whiskey. He used to just rinse bottles thoroughly after drinking, and rinse before bottling in hot water. he never had any problems with infections.
For my bottling and drinking, I reckon I will always use a steriliser.

No peroxide is fine, I even use it on my stainless, although you can only sanitise.
Its not a state of mind folks its true.
Sterilisation is the abscence of any living critter which is difficult to achieve short of having an autoclave.
We Sanitise which means you can have some bugs left over, just in low enough concentrations not to affect the beer. ie, the yeast you pitch outnumbers the bugs and the lag time for the bugs is much greater than the lag for the yeast.
I know it must seem petty to most but............

Grumpys,here in the adelaide hills,uses and recomends One Shot,which is orthophosphoric acid.Apparently you don't have to rinse it off.

The local HBS here has Neo Pink which is apparently really good...Im just gonna stick with using Napi-San...havent had any issues with it & it lasts a while...espcially if you get the big container!

After using sodium met. for my first 12 brews, i decided to research alternatives to reduce the cost of cleaning fermenters and bottles, as sodium met. costs $ 8 per 500 gram bag and only does around 4 or 5 brews.I googled sodium percarbonate and found a heap of positive information on the use of this stuff.It's cheap at 5 bucks for a kilo and is a fungicide,germ killing agent as well as a bleach.It is also biodegradable , so it won't impact on the environment.So, i'm going to give it a try and see how i go.
