B&S Balls, what a top weekend!!!!! Used to go to one in WA called the Inseminators Ball, was a ripper!! Never got many Kiwi's there though!!!

plenty of booze

heaps of lovely young ladies

and donuts in the back paddock!!!!

yehaw!!!

On a different tack, when working on a shearing team in out back WA, we used to come across the old kero fridge in some sheds. If it would work we'd bung it in the ute and drive it around the paddock the shake the crap out of it, then stand it up for an hour or two before firing it up again!

I guess you would never have needed a kero fridge in your neck of the woods Dogger, but when I was a lad that is all we had in the bush. You see we had no mains power and in the early days only had 32v power suplied by batteries that where charged by an early wind generator, or a little diesel engine with a generator on it. For refridgeration we had kero fridges, shits of things really, cold as buggery in the winter and only cool in the summer, but that was all we had. They are the same type of unit as the modern day gas/electric fridges you find in mobile homes etc. but these ran on lighting kerosene, ( think you blokes call it paraffin or something) They have a tank underneath that holds the kero, and that has a wick arrangement similar to the old kero lamps, this supplies the heat to get the liquid to become gas (which I think is ammonia) it then circulates through the system and cause cooling...........sort of!

Lesson in Aussie "culture" for you Dogger:

B & S Balls (Bachelors & Spinsters Ball) are a huge event on the rural social scene. Originally they were held to give single country people the opportunity to meet potential suitors and expand their circle of aquaintances.

These days, they are simply an excuse for a huge piss-up somewhere in the bush, loads of sex, fights, and "circle work" in the mornings. Circle work involves doing lots of "donuts" in high powered utes (pickup trucks) in the mud or dust of the nearest paddock, sometimes towing a party goer behind them on a piece of cardboard.

If you're an Aussie & haven't been to a B & S Ball then you haven't lived!!! 8)
