Obviously finding the info first is better, but the search i did did not locate what i was after. Sparrows link to a web site was handy however. Maybe i wasn't patient enough in my search, But i do find the search facility pretty ordinary.
And regardless who cares. You should be able to live with the repeat discussions, from my experience there are many because this list is very handy for people new to brewing or wanting to keep learning.

1. How do people crush grain? When using 250-500gms of specialty i have just been banging with a meat tenderizer, but obviously not going to work well with 2000gms plus. Crushes seem very expensive.

The guy at my nearest HBS said i could chuck it in the blender or a coffee grinder, would doing this be ok
It will likely be to fine, I like the rolling pin technique. If youare going to move up into larger mashes you may need to buy a mill, or like me, buy your 25 kilo bag of grain crushed, they do make it that way and it is about 2 dollars a bag more than uncrushed.
Now I don't mean to get into a big one here but........Funky, you aren't the first to ask about partials. That being said, I don't think you needed to have your arse slammed around either. In my age I have found it to be easier to leave sore spots alone, and that works both ways.
And you know what, some days I need to re learn it all myself, look at Kurtz and I, for me, nothing sets me off more than partial information.

DD i have respect for all the bits & pieces i've picked up from you over the year or so that i've been on here. & i really am thankfull... but i guess i see this (& a few of your other soapbox posts) a little hipocritical. do you really think that a "newbie" putting forward "partial info" would set you off as much as it did with kurt??.. & do you think that none of your posts have contained "partial info"?

I've seen you fuel your fair share of sore posts (as most of us probably have - myself included).. but to then get up on the soapbox & point the finger at others & rant about "how good this place used to be" etc. afterwards is a little lame IMO.

Whole point of this place is too share info. Newbies (like myself) need to find stuff out from some source and what better a source than experienced brewers. However the search feature does work so why not use it! So how about we share our little secrets and let it go. I'm not picking any fights, as i am happy with all the information and tips i have learn from all you experienced brewers.

I agree with Dogger when he says that sore bits shoulds sometimes be left alone. Perhaps i should have let it go, but then again i just made a point at the beginning that i did not appreciate Yardy's initial post. He increased the offensive remarks and i took offense.
However I SHOULD HAVE LET IT GO and not posted the offshoot thread.
That said i am looking elsewhere for info, because this list is not for me.

Thats a real shame FB...maybe it was more the point that Yardie is tired of hand holding people (not that I think thats what you needed at all) but being a newbie myself I had no choice but to ask many questions at the beginning, no matter how frustrated I thought people were becoming!...leaving this forum IMHO will be a mistake as I have gathered most of my valuable information from here!
