I have acquired some Grolsch bottles - some of them are very dirty though and one even comes with its on cigarette butt in it!
Although I am only new to this game, I do understand the importance of cleaning cleaning and more cleaning.
So what do people recommend as to the best method of cleaning these bottles up for use. I have given then a quick once over in some house hold bleach and cold water. And that has removed most of the superificial scum.. but there are still a few bottles with some stains on the insides of them..
Any help would be appreciated.. and might I say thank you for all of the invaluable information that is already on these forums! Well done guys..
as well as the Neo pink, make sure you remocve the rubber seals and clean them and the groove in the lid. When putting the seals back on put them on "backwards" this will increase life, or if they are really grotty or thin most homebrew shops sell replacements.
I soaked mine in Pink for a few days then gave a good scrun with bottle brush to make sure all was well before using them.

Robjess, neo pink is available almost every where, look in super market, k mart, big w and brew shops. It comes in a 250gm white plastic container and acts as both a cleaner and a steraliser.
FOR A HARD EARNED THIRST THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A GOOD HOME BREW...
Not tryiing to steal your thread Robjess, but I have six flagons, of various sizes, which have been stained since before we/they went metrtic and I can find NOTHING which will clean the areas I cannot reach with a brush. Please don't ask what I intend filling these flaggons with - I just want help to clean the bl**&^ things.
ps; they MUST be sterile cause they soaked in every concoction so far mentioned on this board.
By the way, have you tried soking them in Coke for a month.

I have recently got on to the cleaning gear that the pubs and clubs use to wash their glasses, you can get it from any of the commercial chemical reps, the one I got is called "saniglass" and is distributed by Dominant chemicals here in the Alice, but I am sure you would get a similar product anywhere. I don't know about soaking the really bad stains off, but I know it does the job if you use a brush with it. It is pretty concentrated so I 'spose if you tried soaking in a more concentrated mixture than normal it might do the trick.
