Well, I tried one of these last night (was at a friend's place and it was either that or Carlton Cold).
So I thought I'd give it a go.
I can confirm that it one of the worst beers anyone is likely to taste. Ever. Actually, you can hardly taste it because there's nothing to it. Bloody terrible stuff.
Slight lemony taste, next to no bitterness and a body you could only describe as anorexic it's so thin.
After I finished it, I ducked out to the bottleshop around the corner and returned with a six-pack of Cooper's Pale Ale and two stubbies of Cooper's Stout. Now they're beers.

Oliver,
I recently tried a beer from El Salvador, which is about to be nationally carried. It's....shocking. A friend of mine, after tasting requested the glass be thrown away as well, to ensure consistancy in the future.
I would love somebody to compare the following in a blind tasting;
Cantina
Miller
Boags "St George"
Corona
If anybody in the local area would like to do a [blind] tasting (db?) please e-mail me and i will send a sample 4 pack out, with requirments of a full in detail tasting to be mailed back.

I was at the local bottlo late this afternoon and was looking at the St George display. It appeared undisturbed, save for some downward movement in the price. With the rate it is leaving the shop you would think every six pack comes with an electric shock and a years supply of pubic lice.
Wimmig, great idea with the beers in return for a tasting sheet. Sorry to say that looking at the beers, I am glad I am in melbourne, far away from those four! Good luck though!

I drink to make other people interesting...
I tried the St George on Friday night at a pub cause a mate bought one in his shout.
It was so bad that I could not finish it. Probably the first time for me that I could not get through a whole stubby of a bad beer.
This is yet another example of lots of money spent marketing a product, rather than making a quality product.

but judging on the amount of weeks the 4-pack of st. george, that i (stupidly) bought, hung around in my fridge for it'd probably take me a few months to get the tasting notes back to you

cheers

Had a go at this stuff last night. It wasn't the worst beer I've ever had (it does run pretty close though), but only because if not told that it was beer, I'm not sure that you'd know. It's almost as though they have bittered it entirely with lemons (or a similar chemical compound) and not bothered at all with hops. My question to Oliver - if Carlton Cold gets half a star for being beer and one star for being better than Bud, what would you rate this?

I'd have to say it would rate pretty close to Carlton Cold, which received 0 starsMerlin wrote:My question to Oliver - if Carlton Cold gets half a star for being beer and one star for being better than Bud, what would you rate this?

We'll make a point of tasting it, but we'll probably only need a stubby between us, as one sip will be all that we consume.
Cheers,
Oliver
Wow, this one got hammered in the ratings.
As birthday gift my old man put together a "mystery slab" (sounds mysterious doesn't it?) which consists of 2 6packs of my choice, and 2 that he thinks I might like or find interesting. I chose Coopers Sparkling and Pale. Boags St George was one that he chose.
So then, I tried it and the first thing I noted was that it didn't really taste like any other beer I'd had. There was a strange flavour to it. It was a 40 degree day outside and the beer was damn cold and it went down damn well. So well in fact, that I marched back to the fridge and grabbed another.
I'll have be a little more careful with my next tasting.

I'd hate to have to go against the grain here, but my missus bought me a whole carton...without asking what I'd like...maybe she judged the beer on price!
Sure I'd have picked something else and yeah, it doesn't taste like any other sort of beer I'd usually drink.
tell you what though, when the weather's hot and the St Georges are COLD they can still be pretty good! If the stubbies were bigger and the price smaller, I'd probably buy some more.
FECK! It's beer! Evenif only just!

well theres the solution - just chill the absolute heck out of it & wait for a scorcher. I tried it six months ago when renewing my whats new to drink card - It sucked followed closely by the cantina crap from south america somewhere. Had to get a six pack of imported becks to cure my problems
I do drink Coronas though - don't hold it against me (usually extremely cold though)
