ring of beer crap in fermenter

Post by thisispants »

How do you clean the beer scum ring ? up near the top on the water level.

Does everyone get this ring...it seems as if it's stained onto the fermenter....i just can't get it off.

any ideas?

If it is really hard to remove fill the fermenter with water and add what ever you use for cleaning, then leave over night. This will soften the ring and you should be able to whip it off.

Neo Pink, hot water and a good rub with a soft sponge.

Napisan.

Instructions.... Rinse out fermenter with hose.
Leave high wort mark alone.
Add a litre or two of water to botom of fermenter.
Add Napisan (isntructions on pack)
Swirl Napisan in fermenter several times every few hours. Contact all surfaces.
Leave overnight.
Next day wash and scrub out as usual.

Easy.
Napisan Rocks, yeah!

Depends a bit on what sort of beer you brew, I find the bitters that I prefer are a lot harder to get off than the lighter bodied beers, but I find straight up cold tap water gets it off without too much effort, albeit Alice Springs cold tap water! just give it a squirt then wipe with a soft cloth, at worst, soak for an hour and then wipe off. You may find it a bit harder if you don't do it as soon as you have finished bottling, or racking, but even then it shouldn't be a big deal!

Yeah, I've always just let it soak outside in the sun for an hour or so, then it comes off with a cloth and a bit of encouragement.

thanks lads!

I ended up soaking it in water and a bit of bleach overnight. Came off no problems.... in fact it was nearly all gone without even having to scrub.

genius!

Just remember that just because you couldn't see the ring doesn't mean it wasn't there! Perhaps the bleach just, well, bleached it! That's why a bit of a scrub is always worth the effort. I use a Selleys Wash-up Wiz on my fermenters as it's non-abrasive.

Do a search for Wiz.

Cheers,

Oliver
