Yeah I thought I had seen them at old Murphys also.. but when I looked the other day they didnt have any. I will have to keep checking - as the one 1.5 ltr bottle that I was given has now been stolen by my wife to use as a water bottle in the fridge.

I dont think she truely understands.

water bottle!!!! Do you know what fish do i water? Surely you can't be expected to drink plain water!

I'd steal that right back and give it a good clean, then fill with something worthwhile like a good brew :lol:

Water bottle, Yeh, Crunch Bird my...... That would only happen.... no it wouldn't...... yes it did. :oops:

Next time brew more beer so then there are no empties. Never give em a chance I say, based on experience.

I let a secondary fermentor sit to long empty once and the Missus had flipping sun flowers growing out of it next time I needed it. Sucked to be a Blue Jay that day I might add. I don't think the dog was all that happy either now that I think on it.

Nothing makes the heart beat stronger and the feet move faster than a size 13 up the provirbial butt (sucks to be the dog)

Still makes good beer mind you (The fermentor, not the size 13 or the dogs butt).

For priming bottles i use a "KANGABROO" http://www.liquorcraft.com.au/shop_vic/ ... crowns.htm About half way down the page, about the best photo I could find on the web.

the tap is turned back and forth for a single dose. Inside teh tap is an adjustable piece, this allows differnet volumes to be dispensed. I have it set at 3.5 grams for a 375 ml stubby. (Double shot for a 750 bottle) this okay for the other similar sized stubbies and not bad on a 500 ml. takes no time to prime a btahc of bottles. The only thing is that you must use granulated sugar, and dextrose and fine sugars jam it up.

I have just bulk primed the last few batches and haven't yet decided which is easier. but if you are after a cheap 2nd fermentor i got a 20L plastic food grade bucket at Bunnings for $8 and $8 forme the HBS i got a tap and nut to fit.

Hey robjess, you just have to get that Grolsch 1.5 ltr bottle back the poor bugger being filled with water!
Seriously these are to conveient for us master brewers, then to be used for the storage of that clear chemically filled clear liquid which has'nt the slightest bit of charecter.

A mate of mine advised me of this method of priming.. does this work?

"Actually you just draw off two bottles of the brew (wurt) just before you add the yeast and store them in a fridge until your ready to bottle the beer.

You then tip the bottles back into the brew, stir it through then bottle it without adding the usual teaspoon of sugar to the bottles. This does a tad more fermenting to create many small bubbles (as a beer should have) instead of big soft drink-like bubbles that result from adding a teaspoon of sugar to each bottle as you bottle the brew."

Hi guys.
Just firing this subject up again as I'm interested in using honey instead of sugar for bulk priming. I've used honey on a few bottles before instead of sugar and had good results.
For my last brew I put in 200ml of honey instead of 200g of dex in half a litre of water and stirred into my #6 IPA.
Now i've been told by a mate that I've made bombs and over-primed. But in other literature, I've read, that i might have under-primed them.
So a bit of conflicting opinions there.

Today they became due (2 weeks in the bottle) and the head is excellent and lasts the whole brew. Does that mean I better drink them quick before they gas up too much?

I think you'll be fine. Given that honey isn't all fermentables (and includes water), I'd reckon you'd get less sugar out of honey than out of sugar or glucose.

But I'm sure someone can provide specifics about the fermentability of each, gram for gram.

Its like and ferments 80 percent give or take substituting the 200 should directly will be OK, I just wonder about how effectivly it will ferment although it seems like it has done OK

i think 200g of honey should be ok.. in 23litres that is. i've noticed with the temps here in syd of late that i'm getting full carbonation within 2weeks

I am new to brewing also, got my kit for Christmas.

Anyway on the 1.5 litre Grolsch bottle and the two glasses.
I was in at Liquorland in Ivanho, Melbourne todany and saw them going for $20.
Seems like pretty good value to me. :)
