Older = Less drunk + more hangovers?

As I've gotten older I need to drink a lot more to get drunk (don't worry I'm not surprised by that). But now when I get drunk its more like I just get a hangover headache, the fun part of getting drunk seems to be gone! On Saturday I was drinking from 2pm to 2am straight and all I got was a crappy headache around midnight. However, I get up the next day with a killer hangover.

When I was a teenager if I drank from 2pm to 2am straight I would be on the back lawn throwing up all over myself all night, yet I'd get up the next day and feel fine.

Now even if I drink 2 beers I seem to get a hangover.

Anyone else have a similar experience as they've gotten older?

I can honestly say no. The older I get the more I enjoy it and I usually wake up fine, especially if I've been drinking brew.

anecdotal evidence suggests that "throwing up all over yourself" will prevent a hangover, because your body dumps all the shit that causes it.

I partly believe this from my experience when I was an engineering student.

The more you drink over the years, the better you get at it. Beer is great, drinking is great and you always want to keep the momentum. So you drink tonnes, stay in control, and get boozy headaches early - and get the seedyness the next day...

When you are younger, armed with the devil may care attitude, and just want to get drunk, you go hammer and tong, get stonked and hurl.

I organised a homebrew party for this weekend, and know I'll be into the nurofen after a few hours... and I'm only 33. But i'll be heaps better that if we'd been drinking Vbs... Oh Yeah!

Maybe some spirits and coke to replenish the sugar?

Make sure that you consume the sediment from the HB Bottle. It is packed with B group vitamins.

I think that is the way to go - but i didnt know about vitamins...

I love drinking out of tallies when in the garden (have 2 acres) and when I started HB, i used to use a pint glass but it was a hassle, so went for sediment, love the taste.

Actually, it's the texture that makes it.

You just defined what I thought about the sediment without me realising it before - the mud, when it's creamy is tops. Like Greg, I love mud too (us "MudBrewers" to give it a name) and I'm glad I'm not the only one - I felt like a sad old soak when I was only one who liked the chunks of sediment in the old crown seal coopers stubbies!

Greg, now we discuss mud, what is your fave - chunk, creamy or ginger ale/cider whispy? and I know if there already a thread you'll tell me

I like to pour clear, then write my initial in the head with the sediment. Then watch it slowly sink and infuse with the rest of the beer.
