Hi Guys.
Ive got all my ingredients:
2kg Pilsner Grain
1.5kg Light Dry Malt
German Lager yeast starter (they didnt have the pilsner yeast)
and a selection of hops:
Ive got 60g Ringwood, 60g Saaz, 60g Halletau, 60g East Kent Golding, 12g Hersbruker.
Im wide open to suggestions, but I was considering:
Bittering - 20g Ringwood, 60mins
Flavour - 10g saaz 10mins
I really am NOT into hoppy beers but is this enough Hops, or will it be too sweet?
Thanks for your help,
Cheers

First Partial - How Much Hops?
The Brewer formerly known as Ilike'emfizzy
The amount of hops depend on a number of factors such as boil volume and alpha acid percentages of the hops. When I tried my first partial I just about did my head in trying to figure out the IBU etc. I found the best thing I did was I downloaded Beersmith which calculates it all for you. Its really easy to use. You can get a 30 day trial version for free. There's a couple of other programs such as promash that also offer a trial version to get you going.
The other thing beer software will help with is determining how much grain to use etc to get your desired alcohol percentage etc.
As you may have guessed, I'm a convert
I've just plugged your recipe into beersmith assuming 65% efficiency and 22L boil vol and the default AA% for hops and it gives the following:
4.3% ABV
21.6 IBU
If you don't like hoppy beers, then this will be about right. Most kits give a beer of around 20 IBU's so if thats what you're happy with, thats the way to go.
