Cooper's imperial stout
Cooper's imperial stout
Does anyone have a recipe for making an imperial stout from a coopers stout kit?
Chris,
There was one on the Coopers Club Forum that went along the following lines:
Coopers Stout
Coopers Classic Old Dark
Coopers Lager
500gm Coopers Light Dry malt
500gm Dextrose (I cut this to 350gm because that was what was left in the bag)
All three yeasts ( I threw in a fourth Coopers kit yeast I had in the fridge).
Water to 23 litres
It will krausen out the top in a volcanic manner.
I last tasted one a couple of weeks ago - it was about 3 months old and was good, if still a little green.
OG was 1085, finished 1025.
Chnages for next time: I'll use a starter from an S23 to get a better attenuation and hopefully less krausen across the floor.
Cheers,
Greg

I tryed this one http://www.grainandgrape.com.au/BeerOTM ... ersIRS.htmChris wrote:Does anyone have a recipe for making an imperial stout from a coopers stout kit?
I used a Coopers Stout kit & a Tooheys lager (one of several cheap kits I bought a while ago).
The amount of water for steeping is way off. This threw me at first. I used at least 2 litres. I also topped up the fermenter a bit much for an Imperial Stout, ~23 litres instead of the recomended ~15 - 18.
If I do this recipe again, I'll use 2 Coopers kits plus the steeped grains & fill to ~15 litres.
Ride, Drink, Repeat.
