Belhaven Export Ale clone

Post by muddy »

Found this recipe on Brewcraft pamphlet - International Classics No2.

My mate did it first and once one bottle was opened for tasting - I wanted more.

Muntons Scottish Heavy Ale
400g crystal
50g black malted grain ( used roasted barley)
1 kg ldm
250 gm white sugar
20gm Fuggles
safale S04
to 18 litres.

I did not follow pamphlets instructions.

Steep 30 mins. Strain and add ldm and sugar. Boil 30mins. Add hops and boil 1 min. Off heat and rest for 15 mins. Strain. To 18 litres. Rehaydrate and pitch yeast 20deg C. Brew 20 deg C. Racked and in secondary for two weeks. Bottle with 2/3 of normal primer.

It says that it is "rich fruit, malt and toffee". That is the exact description of most who have tried this little gem. If that sounds like you - have a go at this beer. It is awesome. Going to be a staple in my diet.

Enjoy.

Muddy, this beer sounds.......muddy

I like the sound of it........do you know what final FG was?
A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.
Give me a flying headbutt.......

Boonie,

I have thought about taking readings but have never had a problem just going by sight so just figured why waste a drop. So I have no OG/FG readings. It does leave a warming sensation.

Lethal , do it. If you dont like it I promise to make some sh&^e that you prescribe for me as punishment.

I have made others from that pamphlet which are also good.
