X-Tract Pale Ale

This is for all you X-Tract fans out there...

Thought I'd post a recipe I just made, and let you know the results when they happen. The fermenting wort already tastes magnificent.

X-Tract 3kg Pale Ale
150g Vienna grain- steeped
7g cascade hops for aroma
Coopers Pale Ale yeast (from bottle)

Made up to 20L.

I am assuming you mean the Country brewer X-Tract cans.

I have just finished fermenting a Pilsener X-Tract. The only thing I added to what is in the can, is 160gm or so of dextrose. Made up to 20l also. Will be bottling this weekend.

I can't wait to try it, it does smell great. Oh, and it's my first go of an X-Tract too - easy to do, but interested in how they turn out.

Yes, it's the CB X-Tract.

I recon that they are the best kits you can get from an HB store.

The pilsner is beautiful. I added nothing when I did it, and it was great.

You should try the lager. It is fantastic.

Chris, these kits of course have all the hops and so on in the kit, and are included loose in the fermenter.

When you finished fermenting, did it look as dirty as you've ever seen a brew - I going to bottle tomorrow, and it looks dirty - crap all over.

Probably not a problem as I know all the crap is in the fermenter, but can you please set my mind at ease?

scblack can you rack it to clear it up a bit before bottling?

Never had that problem. The Saflager yeast cake is pretty firm and compact.

Actually, there is a bit of crud from the hop pellets. I'd rack if possible, but it should be good either way.

Correct. It does need to be mashed

OK, thanks guys, I'll rack it for a bit into my bulk priming carboy.

It does have a good yeast cake on the bottom, and the bits on top are I guess the hops bits and pieces.

Just all looks dirtier and messier than I have ever seen before.

Just rack the Pale, and it is dark, and very bitter. I'm almost wondering if the can was mislabled- this tastes like a bitter.

Oh yeah! Just sampled a small bottle of my X-tract Pilsner. After observing how disgusting the thing looked in the fermenter, I racked then bulk primed.

This beer is already the clearest in the shed and it's no where near ready!

I added 12g of SAAZ dry hopped. Brewed at 17 deg. No other fancy stuff neither, this stuff is GOOD!

I made a Coopers Pale ale last week with kit/tin + 1kg Breweiser brew Booster, approx 200g of dextrose & 200g of Yellow Box honey. Boiled up about 10g of crushed criander seeds for good measure - an experiment really.

Will leave it for maybe 2 months a see how it goes.

Took a measure before I pitched the yeast and got a 6.9% alcohol reading - ooops. A bit heavier than I had expected, but could be interesting. :P

just downin a few xtract pilsners i bottled a coupla months ago. done as per instructions,this is not a bad beer at all!!! very bitter for about 6 weeks but quite rounded and smooth now :) has a great slightly creamy head which lasts the whole beer. wouldnt add any hops to this one as it is nicely bitter when matured. also cold conditioned my stubbies for 3 weeks. cheers fellow brewers :)

also brewed at 16C for 6 days then in secondary for 2 weeks at same temp. seems about 5% just guessin.
