Head retention on beer

Post by Stevetjones »

Any recomondations for keeping a good head on ales, such as stouts, dark ale, draught? I tried licorace extract in my stout and an additive called big head. The stout tastes great but the head disapears.

A bit of dried wheat malt in with the brew works for me

About 100gm or so is fine

Cheers

try steeping some carapils grain about 100 grams

it'll add mouth feel + help with head retention while not imparting flavour or colour

cheers

Son, a woman is like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you'd step over your own mother just to get one! But you can't stop at one. You wanna drink another woman! Homer Simpson

Personally i think it does but it could be just a mental thing, when you have good head retention it seems to (in my opinion) make the beer taste smoother and creamier, i think its also a good sign of a well matured and well brewed beer, as your beer matures the bubbles in the beer get alot smaller and hold together in groups alot better resulting in a good head retention
