I am pretty new to this homebrewing game.....have done about 5 or 6 brews so far. All of the brews so far have been drinkable, but probably not exactly my style. I would love to be able to brew a pilsner type beer (I really enjoy the pilsner urquell), but at the moment I only really have the temperature control to keep the fermenter at around 20 degrees.
Is it possible to make a nice pilsner with heaps of saaz hops at ale temperatures? Or will i end up with some weird taste to the beer?
I've done a lager (with saflager-S23) at 16°C and it was fine. I'd say 20 would work... it might not be perfectly in style, but it's quite likely to taste great...
Just a follow up question. Do you still get the slightly fruity ale taste when brewing at 20 degrees with a lager yeast? Or does this come from the ale yeast itself?
