I made a cascade porter last year. I brewed with 500g Dried Amber Malt Extract, 500g Maltodextrin and 14g Northern brewer hops (5 min boil) The resultant brew wasn't too bad but it lacked body and flavour. It had great colour and a nice aroma but the flavour was pretty subtle. If I was going to brew again (which I probably will) I would do the following:
1 x Can Cascade Porter
1kg Dried Amber Malt Extract
250g Crystal Malt
50g Chocolate Malt
15g Northern Brewer Hops.
If you like that smokey flavour, you could try adding some "Liquid Smoke" to your next brew. Its available in gourmet food shops. I would use it sparingly, though.
A little goes a long way with that stuff. I bought some 10 years ago and still have it

I'd use some roast barley and black malt to get that "burnt" toasty flavor in a stout. I don't think the liquid smoke will give you the flavor that you're looking for.
It's pretty easy to knock up your own porter recipe that tastes good. Couple of kg of base malt or extract, a bit of crystal and chocolate malt for coloring and malt flavor, brown sugar is appropriate too. OG ~1.050 About 25-30 IBU from English hops, light on the hop flavor.
