Bottled the Newcastle Brown Ale yesterday and so far it tastes alright. Bit darker in colour than what I remember of the authentic NBA, but tastes good already.

I checked the local Brew shop yesterday in Adelaide for the Iso hop extract, as recommended in the Old Specked Hen recipe below. This particular Brewcraft store didn't sell it, nor did any other Adeliade Brewcraft store. After the guy made a few phone calls around other HB shops, his only suggestion was to try some guy in Melbourne.(Incidently, the bloke was very helpful and tried hard to help me!)

Any suggestions of anybody in Adelaide who sells the stuff, or perhaps a possible alternative that will result in a similar flavour/aroma?

Couldn't you just use any bittering hop to get you to the same IBU? Pride of Ringwood might be a good choice. I thought iso hop was a cheap hop extract that doesn't provide as nice flavours as the real thing; used in cheap kits and the like.

You might be right. I haven't the experience in Hop experimentation yet to know the tastes and effects of each hop type.

ISO hop extract is used for bittering more than flavour or aroma. Never used it myself & wouldn't really care too. If you want to stick with that recipe maybe go for a can of something a bit higher in bitterness over the beermakers bitter. Perhaps a Grumpys high bittered extract.
It's been awhile since I've tried the Hen but I don't recall it being overly bitter. I'm not 100% sure but that recipe doesn't sound quite right to me. I could be wrong though.
If your feeling adventurous you could try a Grumpys clone of the OSH

Theyre located in Verdun SA & well worth a trip out there to sample the beer on tap & their woodfired pizza... A HBS with beer on tap & pizza - what more could you want
