Hi there,
I just bought a Fridgemate and plan on doing a proper lager as soon as it arrives.
I am only just getting back into the brewing and want to have a real crack at it.
I am going to get a coopers bavarian lager kit, my question is what would be the best yeast and additives for an inexperienced brewer like me.
I also have a couple of Bacchus and Barley lager kits in the cupboard and the same question for the Bavarian lager apply.

Saflager S-23 is a good lager yeast, and for a first Lager, the Coopers BE2 would be fine. I've used Saaz hops with Coopers Bavarian and that went well.

The yeast that comes with the Bavarian Lager is a lager yeast, there has been some speculation if it's S23.
With the hops simply as you've suggested steep them in some boiling water then add the lot including the hops to the wort.

Hay i just got my fridgmate also (a great little gadget) and just have finnished cleaning the fridge that i got for nothing and i gota wire up the sucker up....
Anyways i want a good easy but real tasty recipe for a lager something nice and fresh.... Any ideas?

Wal's Lager (Country Brewer)
1kg Ultrabrew (500g light malt, 250g maltodextrin, 250g dextrose)
250g dextrose.
I have used TWO sachets of kit yeast in this lager (Lager yeast #497), suggested by Ed and Dogger, as the yeast slows when at a temp of 10-12 degrees, so the more yeast the better the fermentation.
The Wal's Lager has plenty of hops in the kit, so I have not added any to the mix.
A simple brew.

I did this brew aswell and its cold conditioning, cant wait to try it but it looked pretty damn good when i racked it
Xtract lager is easy and is a very nice drop, Wals pilsner as well, and i also do a lager that i really like, its a heineken clone and its simply a brewcraft Dutch lager with a #60 kit converter, turns out really yum

I have two variants on the coopers bavarian, one with hallertau, and one with tettanager (spelling?).
Both with 34/ 70 in a 13 degree fridge they take about 12 days to do their stuff.
Also have an asahi clone with the same yeast, which was bottled on 21 oct so don't know how that will turn out.
Have tried variously be1 and be2 but think the best mix for this type of brew might be 750gms ldme 250 dextrose, 250 corn sugar also known as Greensborough mix.
23 appears to go a bit faster ....
The coopers referred to above are more than adequate drinking if you like a dry lager style.

Just got back from the brew shop.
Got Bavarian lager kit, Saax hops and 1 kilo LDME. Also bought a liquid bavarian yeast.
Just waiting till the fridgemate arrives then we are away and brewing.
What do you reckon of this recipe?
