My beer is firstly held by my hand, and then my stomach.

My usual is a German steinkrug with pewter lid and a 0.5l nominal volume although with ample "head" room. This means that with careful pouring and a few judicial sips while doing so, I can get pretty much a whole longneck of HB in minus the sediment.

Just perfect!

I have three Coopers 285ml glasses (had four but broke one on weekend :( ) Good when drinking stubbies. All came from bottleshop promos, 2x425ml Black Rock glasses my mate gave to me when I started brewing and 1 Frosted glass beer mug I'm guessing about 500ml. Great when drinking longnecks.

I drink from 400ml glasses, which are fine for the Pet bottles and Coopers long necks, but they don't quite hold 2 glasses of the 800ml twist tops.

I like a cold fresh glass every beer and usually rotate through the freezer.

I bought some pilsner glasses last week. Ive washed them in detergent first to get rid of any nastys, then rinsed several times, wiped dry then rinsed several times again with very hot water, then cooled and put in freezer or cupboard. Ive used them all now for beer and rinsed and wiped and rinsewd and left to dry and any other cleaning method you can think of, and they still will NOT hold a head of beer. Be it home brew or commercial brew. Was drinking LCPA last night and no head.

How do you guys wash your glasses ?

Wash em in the dishwasher or for extra efort wash em in your bottle wash. That pink stuff is good for it. I have no probs with my glasses after being in the dishwasher. Then into freezer.

Don't use detergent. Use Napisan, diswasher detergent, or alkaline salts as these are not fat-based. It's the fat-based detergents that kill the head.

Ok, when I said detergent, I meant to say bottle wash detergent, then rinsed copiously. And since their initial wash have only been rinsed in hot water, not a drop of detergent has gone near them.

They're going for a trip through the dishwasher tonight. See if that improves the head retention.

Are we all getting worried about STERILISING our glasses? I mean, of copurse it helps to clean the muck off, but they don't exacly have to be germ free. What's the benefit of sterilising a glass, then putting it in a cupboard or fridge for a few hours to gather germs?

Ive found it to be a big benefit if i have used a glass and only rinsed it for a few weeks it starts to lose head but after steralising i can use for another few weeks with perfect head, Could be just a coincidence but i doubt it

Ok, fair enough. Realistically though, there's not much dishwashing powder in a dishwasher won't kill (on a bacterial level anyway)

My pride and joy and regular drinking vessel is a heavy ceramic 500cl job that I bought from Budapest. Its covered in hand painted images of various bits of budapest and has a woman on one side (holding a beer) and a man on the other (holding a......beer! Revolutionary!). Keeps everything cold and looks bloody gaudy at the same time - so tacky its good. I also use coopers pot glasses or a couple of grolsch 250mL glasses I bought from an op shop a while back if there are guests around.

I have one of those heavy ceramic handpainted mugs and mine's also from Budapest. But mine doesn't have any beer on in. And no beer in it anymore since its incredably hard to wash and keeps an off smell and worse yet when I do wash it cracks appear :( so much for that.

Ive been putting the glasses in the dishwasher, they certainly come out clean.

BUT. . . . If the glass isnt freezing cold, I cant get the beer to head very well at all. And even if I do use a cold glass, it doesnt hold a head for very long at all. This is compared to my pewter mug, which holds a great head and keeps the beer cold longer.

I can hear people asking, why the f#@& dont I just use the mug then ?
I want to have glasses that will work, for guests to drink my brews. If I ever get any worth showing off.

These glasses are 300ml pilsner style glasses, or as my brother put it, flashy pub glasses.

I have been using anything that would hold beer for a while, found a bar accessory shop at a shopping centre in werribee and picked up a couple of 425ml headmaster glasses. When I got home I noticed that the bottom was course. Looked em up on the web to and found out the bottoms are specifically treated this way to retain the head.

not sure if posting websites is ok on this forum but here is the site for them.

http://www.crowncommercial.com.au/conte ... aster.aspx

Just to let you know I have a bad history of pouring beers, i'm definetly not the best going around. I end up with a lot of beer cordial (no head) or completly the opposite. so after I got them thought I would do a little homework to see the best way to pour from a bottle. I did find this this.

http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/in ... 513AAqqleW

So I am not sure if it the new glasses or the way I pour or both but this combination is working for me, never had the head of the beer so good and last as long as it does.

cost of glass $3.99
cost of looking up the internet for a way to pour beer = $20 (1hr)
being able to pour a better beer and retaining the head = Priceless

PS. most of you probably know about these glasses as I just saw them mentioned in another post
