Will this make a good corona?

Suggest or request any recipes for a particular beer or style of beer. Post all recipes here, including kit, partial mash and all-grain.

Will this make a good corona?

I bought the following form my local HB shop: :?

1 Can Coopers Mexican Cervaza
1kg Light dry malt extract
500g Dextrose
12g cascade hops pellets
SAFlager S-23 yeast

Anyone know whether this will this make a good corona? I feel that it could be a little malty, perhaps i should save the malt and go buy Coopers BE 1??

Don't worry, I'm still a newbie too (so you may not want to take my advice haha). Yeah I think it may be a bit malty for a corona. Someone in your other thread (I think), said they used BE1 in a corona and it tasted like fizzy water, so you may want to steer clear of that one. The rest seems ok though.

Both my local stores were out of BE2 so I ended up going to the HB store and grabbing a pack which had 250g Malt, 250 Maltodextrin, 500g Dextrose. I added an extra 300g or so of dextrose to the brew as well. I couldn't wait til the weekend to put it down so it's been in the fermenter a couple days now and that nasty eggsmell is starting to come out.

I think i will try the BE1, no harm in giving it a go i think!

i have made that recipe before it is a very nice beer but not like a corona - much more malty and heavy

What would you suggest then Melbourne man :)

I put the brew down last night and put the coopers hops in the boil for 10 minutes... woops, the thing burst open and the stuff went everywhere. Is it meant to do that? :?

BE1 is better for this style. It's maltodextrine and dextrose so gives a lighter body.

As for the boil, it's pretty much guaranteed to boil over if you don't watch it. Also, adding the hops can cause boilover, so it's a good idea to have a glass of cold water handy to quench any boilovers.

Sorry RWH, i didn't explain myself properly. I put the hops in @10 mins for 10 mins and the hop bag broke open. Hops went everywhere, is this still ok? :wink:

It's happened to me Fraggle, it is no problem, the teabag is for convenience as much as anything. No ill-effects will occur.

Just be careful when bottling/bulk priming or racking not to allow the loose hops to be transferred.

Oh yeah... fantastic beer guys, thanks so much for all your help.

I put it in the keg a week or so ago, it aged in about 2-3 days and keeps improving each glass, or is that due to the alcohol :?

This brew would be the best i have ever made. And to be honest, I think it makes Corona taste a bit weak and second rate...

So thanks again to those who helped, AA here i come :D

I really think that the coopers cerveza is not light enough to be classed as one to start with.

1kg of malt ? Way Too Much imho.

I kind of agree with RWH of using be1 and think that the coopers recipe (using BE2) is too heavy for the style, still nice though.

maybe if you used the morgans recipe you could just use a kilo of malt and the Morgans canadian light.

Good you are using cascade hops for the citrus flavours.

1 x Morgans canadian light.
1kg body brew (60/40 dex / maltodextrin)
400 grams dex (makes up for the light kit)
1 x SuperAlpha finishing hops

goes off like steam beer !
ultra light in color and body.
strong grapefruit aroma's due to the SuperAlpha hops I guess.
