Post by jase »

I love an ale folks, & I reckon I might just have found what I've been lookin for. thought I should share & see what you all think. 1 tin coopers pale ale 1 kg BE2 200gm golden syrup 200gm honey (good pure stuff, straight from the farmer) 1 bag P.O.R hops 1 bag of CL-80 hops Boil the sugars for 15 min then add the POR hops, simmer for 5min (my hop bag broke so I strained the mix & added my only remaining hop-CL80) Added pale ale took off heat for 5min Made up to 23lt & pitched kit yeast @ 23dg Bottled after 10 days /tasted after 8 days & thought this might be something special tasted after 4 weeks & confirmed this is something special chill it down nicely & let me know what you all think!!!!

Sounds alright jase. I would pitch in some fermentis Safale S-04 from the HB shop. You'd be right on the money with the temp (Safale best at 18-24 degrees).
Life's not all beer and skittles. Just beer.

How much is 1 bag of hops? 10g?
A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.

I think it was a 10gm bag, but after checking I dont know, it was a "brewmaster" bag so I can only guess it was it was a 10gm standard

Did the same thing many years ago - Cooopers ale kit, the booster pack, some POR hops and 100g golden syrup. Got me 2nd prize in Coopers homebrew comp in 99. Have to admit tho, its not my best beer. I think even 100g of golden syrup is too much. I have added honey to lagers and espeically pilseners but never combined them. Might be time to dust off some of my old recipes and see how they go.... cheers for jogging my memory Jase! Try the same addition to a dark ale and see what you think....
