TCB Wet Packs - novice brewer

Just ordered the Classic Oak wetpak, as Big Kev would say "i'm excited".

Is Big Kev still alive? I've got a feeling he kicked the bucket. Anyway, this will be my first wetpak.

Noodles, I just opened my first bottle from my Wetpack lager, it's been in the bottle for 3 weeks. I shared it with my wife last night and it was the nicest tasting beer we've ever had, I now know why homebrewers get so fanatical about their brews and can only imagine how good a well made AG would taste.

My previous kit made beers don't even rate!!!

I shall have to change my signature

Yeah, i'm really looking forward to it. Don't know why it's taken me so long to order one but what's done is done.

I guess it was the fact that I thought i'm making fairly respectable beers at $15-$20 per brew so why spend $30 plus postage?

By the sound of it, the extra money is well worth it and I can't wait do a fair dinkum boil. The best part about it is it won't be ready for Christmas, so I won't have to worry about the relos drinking my good stuff.

I think that big Kev did kick it a while back but its still ok to be excited as far as i know

The classic oak is a beautiful beer and im sure that you will be wrapped with it, ive done 2 now and ill be going back for more

And crowash, i have a wetpack lager, lagering in the fridge at the moment so i hope its as good as you say as im sure it will be, i have tried lots of brews from T.C.B and the only one i wasnt overly impressed with was the xtract lager but each to thier own, all the wetpacks have been great and i just tried my APA the other night and yummyyy

Lethaldog,

I currently have the Xtract lager in the fridge lagering at the moment and from what I can tell it has nothing on the wertpack lager. I'm keen to do both the Oak Ale and the Wheat Beer, if they are anything like the Lager they should be awesome!

In my mind they had a Stout too but looking on the website I don't see one.

They have a wetpack porter which i think from memory you can drop back from 22L to 18L to make a nice stout but i havent tried it and i could also be wrong on the info

My wife just called and my wetpak has just shown up at the door. Can't believe I put down a dark ale on Monday, oh well. I might just whack the heat belt on, get the temp up to 30c and get the frementation finished to free up the carboy.

Would anyone like a fruity Dark Ale for Christmas?

Well, the Classic Oak Ale is now in the carboy. Instructions that came with the wetpak were excellent so it was an enjoyable process. Had a bit of a taste of the wort when I took the SG sample, shows a lot of promise.

I have said it before and ill say it again, its a definate winner and the best wetpack i have tried to date, in saying that i have the pils and lager about ready to try so i will reserve any further judgement till then

Lethal, how long has your pils been in bottle before you'll try it ?

Mine was 28 days in the making, (primary and secondary) and now is 24 days in bottle and Im chafing at the bit to try one. My TCB Summer Wheat was 21 days when I tried it and it is fantastic.

My pils has been in the bottle now for 5 weeks and i to have been realy keen to try it, i usually leave them a little longer, say 8 weeks but i may have a go at this one a little earlier

You should have 'just the one'

after to 2 ~ 3 weeks just to check everything is ok.

Yeah i usually do but to be quite honest this one sort of got forgotten, i only looked up how long it had been bottled when the question arose, the 8 weeks is minumum till i start filling the fridge with em

Well I stuck some of the stubbies in the fridge yesterday to start to CC them for Xmas, knowing theyd be young but . . .
I weakened and had two stubbies tonight. Awesome, Fantastic. Not what Id call a classic Pilsner, but then again I wouldnt really know a classic unless I was told. I could drink em all now. If they're going to improve it just gets better. I will restrain from drinking them, Ive plenty of other beer to drink.

At the moment Id have to say its tasteing more like James Squires Pilsner, which isnt anything like an Urquall Pilsner at all, but both really nice beers so we're on a potential winner here with more improvement.

Hey Lethal, on the website they mentioned the Oak Ale was more of a one or two bottle beer, rather than a beer you can have a session on.

Did you find this to be true with your Oak Ale?

I would say that its a mighty beer to really sip and enjoy but in saying that it would also be quite easy to have a session on it

Its not as heavy as say a stout but has got quite a strong destinct flavour

I've got one in the keg in the fridge, it is all I can do not to kick off a session each time I have a pint.
