Best brew ever.
I thought that people might like to post the recipe of the best brew they've made to date.
This is my 12th brew and it's delicious. The only problem with it is the yeast in the bottles is still very loose after 3 months and is hard to pour a beer without a yeasty flavor.
1.7kg can Coopers Australian pale ale
800g LDME
200g Dextrose
200g Crystal malt grain - steeped
6g Goldings hop pellets @ 20mins
12g Goldings hop pellets @ 5mins
SAFale S-04 yeast
O.G 1041 F.G 1008 Alcohol content: 4.9%
Total volume: 21L

The Hightail clone I did is the best so far....

Followed by the 2-can stout/dark ale I did recently.

this sucker has to be it so far for me, ended up not unlike JS Golden ale.
Done and dusted. Sold me with the Golden Ale quote.Ash wrote:this sucker has to be it so far for me, ended up not unlike JS Golden ale.

Bought ingredients today and this brew will go down this week once I have bottled the 3 brews I have down now.
I have heard rave reviews of the JS Golden on here and my neighbour has had it and loves it. I am still working my way to Jewells pub (local) for a taste.
Cheers

Give me a flying headbutt.......
Give me a flying headbutt.......
bear in mind with the small volume boil I did only the crystal & 500gm LDME are in the boil
Also this was only designed to be a middy in a 20l batch so if you add more malt remember to add more hops to keep it balanced.
Next time I'm going to try a little wheat malt & a 3rd hop addition at flameout (more amarillo)

I have some wheat grains and more Amarillo, but I will stick to your original.Ash wrote:bear in mind with the small volume boil I did only the crystal & 500gm LDME are in the boil

Please post your findings back if it is better or worse.
I am very keen to try this puppy as you have rated it already.
Cheers again

This one from Pharmaboy:
Ed, my fav belgian ale that i brew, is what i call a forbidden fruit;-
Brewcraft belgian ale 1.7kg
LME 1.5 kg (light if you want the right colour, amber for more complex sugars)
500gm English crystal malt steeped
200 grams brown sugar (or candy if you can be bothered)
tablespoon crushed coriander
zest of one mandarine
forbidden fruit yeast (can be got from bottle or wyeast forbidden fruit)
brew at 24 degrees. If you want to be real tricky, the sugar/candy can be added after krausen to give the yeast another shot. make up to 21 litres.

A cracker. Shits on practically every commercial brew I've had (with a few exceptions).

Put it down tonight
Ash's recipe
1.5kg Morgan's Pale liquid malt
500gm LDME
250gm 145ebc Crystal malt grain
16gm PoR for 60min
10g Amarillo for 15min
Brewing notes: Steep grain for 30min in 3l water, rinse with 1.5l boiled & cooled water into pot. Stir in 500gm LDME & bring back to rolling boil, add 16g PoR for 60min & 10gm Amarillo for 15min. Stir in 1.5kg malt tin at flameout.
Using chilled water to get down to pitching temp.
Calulated out to end up at approx 3.5% alc & 21.5 IBU, so a hoppy little low gravity beer (est starting grav ~1.035).
I just put in the Amarillo 5 min ago, will report back as I go.
This is my first attempt with specialty grain & boiling hops, will report back with progress. A very helpful HBS owner (Greg @ Homebrewer's Warehouse) helped me piece this one together so due credit to him, though it was made up on the spot! (he picked the Amarillo & did the calcs for the boil, which matched my online calcs to within 2/10ths of stuff all).
Hope it works out, meant to be a summer quaffer. just using an ale yeast, lagers are a PITB
Edit: OG 1.030, final volume is 20l
Cheers
Ash
What I did tonight
1.5kg Morgan's Pale liquid malt
500gm LDME
250gm 145ebc Crystal malt grain
16gm PoR for 60min
15g Amarillo for 45min
15g Amarillo for 30 Min
15g Amarillo for 15 Min
Yeast was a leftover Coopers Pale Ale yeast

Brewing notes: Steeped grain for 1 hour (Waiting for mate to turn up to show him....LOL) in 3l water. Stir in 500gm LDME & bring back to rolling boil, added hops as per schedule above. Stirred in Morgans Pale Malt Liquid at flameout.
Using chilled water and ice to get down to pitching temp to 22 degrees.
Starting Gravity 1035.
Made to 21 litres as I could not get to tap fast enough

Cheers Ash and I hope it turns out OK

I would have added some at flame out as an extra myself rather than more earlier - what AA% did your hops have?. Mine were 8.9 for the amarillo & 9.1 for the PoR

13.6 POR and 9.5 Amarillo.
I am going to add some Amarillo Dry Hop at rack......maybe. I will see what it tastes like when I test the FG

Spot on PA - the lower/later addition of amarillo make this brew a damn fine drop. Not sure if its JSGA cos i have never tasted it but its a winner regardless!Pale_Ale wrote:My JSGA had 45g Amarillo total, plus a Sparkling Ale kit (bittered with PoR). IT turned out a bit too bitter for the style but was a bloody tasty drop! I would use minimum 3 additions of Amarillo for a JSGA - 15, 2 and dry hopping.
p.s 15g at each addition.
As for my fave brew - well its a fine line between this one and Boonies LCPA. Both miles ahead of my previous best which was a nut brown ale kit + 1.5kg of amber malt extract, no additional hops. Nice but am addicted to hops now.
Cant wait for winter, the temp on the brew just went up to 25-26 with the nice weatherBoonie wrote:Ash wrote:Shit I think you'll need more amarillo there boonie![]()

Racked last night and tested the brew, put in the hydrometer tube and forgot to test it
, too quick in testing the taste and smell.
Smell was awesome and tasted very nice out of the keg.
I have 3 brews down and it was the best by a mile.
Threw another 15 g of Amarillo (Dry Hopped) for goods measure last night
Cheers
