SpillsMostOfIt's Cupboard Cleaner Bitter

Post by SpillsMostOfIt »

This beer is based on a bunch of stuff I had in the cupboard and wanted to get rid of. As a recipe, it is well-suited to substitution.

Ingredients:

1 Can Coopers Bitter Concentrate
350g Light Dried Malt Extract
290g Wheat Malt Extract
460g Coopers BE1
15g Hallertau Hops (12 min boil)
10g Saaz Hops (8 min boil)
2 Sachets Coopers Yeast
2 teaspoons Nescafe Gold Instant Coffee
1 teaspoon White Sugar
30ml low fat milk.

Process:

Bring 4-5 litres of water to the boil in your big pot.
Add BE1, LDME and Wheat Extract, return to boil and stir until dissolved.
Add Hallertau and start timing.
Add Saaz at the appropriate time.
Turn the stove off.
In a separate saucepan or kettle, boil approx 1-2 cups water. Add boiled water to coffee and sugar in a mug and stir. Add milk.
Wait for coffee to cool to taste then enjoy.
Empty can of Bitter Extract into clean/sanitised fermenter, followed by contents of big pot. Stir until ingredients are well combined, then top up to 23 litre mark with tap water.
Cool using your preferred method to pitching temperature then add contents of two yeast packets.

Serves: 1 (coffee), many (beer).

Warning: Cooking and steeping times may vary depending on your equipment. Sauce will thicken on standing. Made in Australia from local and imported ingredients.

Is the wheat malt extract the wheat/barley blend or the pure wheat with the enzyme added so it ferments?

Could I substitute the coffee with a home brew?

Good work Spills

Don't know frankly. It came from G&G and whenever I've used it previously, it *seemed* to 'work ok'.

You could, Hashie, but you need to be careful. Every time I've brewed with beer in hand, I've ended up having another one. And we all know that beer drinking can lead to beer brewing...

I figure:

Kit & Kilo - Instant Coffee with white sugar and low-fat milk.
Extract Brew - Plunger Coffee with raw sugar and full cream milk
AG - Espresso Machine Coffee - machiato (real brewers don't use sugar).
No Mash Tun. No Chill.

No confirmed fatalities.

Yep, but an Esspresso machine and grinder for an AB coffee is easier to get past the missus than all the AG kit.
