General homebrew discussion, tips and help on kit and malt extract brewing, and talk about equipment. Queries on sourcing supplies and equipment should go in The Store.
I was working on a recipe for a hazelnut brown ale and came across your list of brews with the Choc Hazelnut Porter. I was wondering if you used a hazelnut syrup similar to the cordials used in coffees. If so, which brand did you use, how much did you throw in, when, how'd it turn out, etc.? Perhaps you could post the recipe? In the appropriate forum, of course...
Thanks much for the info - finding the hazelnut extract/syrup was hard enough for me out here. I found some online (with free shipping, no less) and finally came up with this recipe. Unfortunately, I'm still pretty new to the homebrew thing, plus I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no access to a local HBS, so I'm stuck for the most part with what I find in the local shops (Wooly's and Coles). I had to convert most of your recipe to a K-n-K plus what I had on hand. Here's what I'm cooking up as I write:
1.7 kg tin Toohey's Old
1 kg Cooper's BE2
200 g caramunich 2 malt
100 g chocolate malt
20 g POR for 60'
10 g Fuggles for 10'
500 ml hazelnut syrup (coffee cordial)
Cooper's Yeast Culture
Thanks again for your help with the hazelnut part.
Thought this thread was about total beer production for last year.

Nice way to keep it on track Peanut.
Never mind the fact that there's a 3 month gap between the last post & slackers request.

I have made little progress in the brewing as i have been putting it off until i get the AG gear, and that has taken a lot longer than what i have expected.
But this year i have manufactured:
2x Hefeweissen
A Pale ale that is painfully bitter and hoppy
an american amber ale.
A golden pilsner.
A nelson sauvin lager
and a munich helles...
Best one was the last...
the majority of these were made with cans that i was getting rid of to start AG.
i think the only decent one that i made out of those was the helles. the NS lager was a close second.
I freely admit that I was Very Very Drunk....

Running a little slow this year so far. Now that brewing season is finally here, I should have all three churning all the time...
