Hey guys
I am lacking a set of scales to measure my dextrose with in a first attempt at bulk priming..
Does anyone have an idea as to how many cups/mLs 120g of dextrose would be?
Thanks, Bill

I think 120g is a half a cup with a heaped teapoon removed from said cup.dewbot wrote:Hey guys

I normally do 170-180g of dex for mine and that was 2 teaspoons + out of a 3/4 cup. I have scales now

Why only 120g? Small Batch?
Cheers

A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.

120 is fine for some beers, and it depends on the temp of the beer prior to adding sugars too.Boonie wrote: Why only 120g? Small Batch?
I put 130g dex @ 18C into a dark ale and it's one of the smoothest beers I've made.
Coopers.
Wow i think i used too much then.. I think I ended up with about one and a half cups.. Should be interesting.. I'll keep them in an enclosed box
I read this guide http://oz.craftbrewer.org/Library/Metho ... uide.shtml
And 120g seemed the go.. ?

It does depend on the bottles, I've found. I've had a couple of over-primed brews, and I've had VB stubbies (twisties) suffer catastrophic failure
, where 640ml reusable bottles have been fine. Actually, the worst was when I was chilling the over-primed beer to release some pressure, and one exploded on the bench. Fortunately, by a miracle, all the flying glass missed me, and just left a huge mess all over the kitchen.

T.

I had gone without any explosions until last year when I had a lager that i figured "must surely be finished now" that took out about 9 bottles of a carton, no less, and sent some bloody big shards 3-4 metres away.
Fortunately this happened in the brewery when I was `safely ensonsced inside the house.

Curiosity has got the better of me here this morning. Pulled out my scales that I've been for 4 Months. Checked my theory/calculations I had made previously.............wrong Mr Boonie.Boonie wrote:I think 120g is a half a cup with a heaped teapoon removed from said cup.dewbot wrote:Hey guys

I poured Dex into 1 "Standard" Measuring Cup. The Dex weighed in at 164 Grams. Therefore 3/4 of a cup I have using previously was 123 minus the two teaspoons I was taking out, and the Bubbles were fine

My scales tell me this is about 240g of Dex, which from that link you gave, gives a very Gassy beer.Wow i think i used too much then.. I think I ended up with about one and a half cups.. Should be interesting.. I'll keep them in an enclosed box
I am going to use less in the future to see what happens.
