What to do with a Coopers Pale Ale Kit?

Post by corks »

Been brewing for a while now, just kit and kilo mostly though i've started using LDME a bit too. so im looking to make a foray into hops and possibly specialty grains territory with the coopers pale ale kit i picked up on special the other week.
picked this one off a thread here

Cooopers kit
1kg brew enhancer 2
300g LDME
100g Dried Wheat Malt
20g tettnanger hops
(thanks mikey)

just wondering how long to boil the hops (im guessing about 10-15 mins), or if another strain would be better (perhaps amarillo?). also, would some specialty grains be a good idea? i'm not looking to make an exact clone, just something tasty.
cheers.

Well, sounds like you're trying to make a tasty ale, so why not try some Goldings, Fuggles, Cascade or, yes, Amarillo. Tettnanger is more of a lager hop AFAIK. Try about 15g for 5-10 mins.

And I'd also chuck in some US-56 yeast instead of the kit stuff.

That would make a mighty fine drop IMHO

coopers pale ale can

1kg light malt
safale ale yeast (red packet)

boil it all up in a saucepan and drop the hops in a stocking and float them for about 15min.

I do similar with a little less hops and 150g crystal. Turns it into a really nice kit

hmm i might just do that. you just have to steep crystal correct? and i might add 500g dextrose as well, just for an extra kick.

ill be off to brewcraft soon. wish grain and grape was closer.

Trust me - you're better off making the journey to G&G. I'm five minutes away from the Richmond place and 20minutes from Yarraville (on a good day) and I am unlikely to bother the Richmond place with my custom again.

You will save money in Yarraville. You will get a broader experience base to leverage. You will find more product. You can be assured their products have been treated properly. You get to cross the Maribyrnong!

I have no association with them apart from going there and buying stuff once a month or so.

What's your issue with the Bunnings fermenters? I use them and am quite happy. Of course, I am a follower of the Roll of Cling Film.
